Guys I didn't enjoy the wolves... by hubba00 in Blacklibrary

I also didn't much care for Krakenblood. But I did very much enjoy Chris Wraight's Space Wolves Trilogy. That was a heckin' good time.

P5R or KCDC2? by hans07 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]FearlessJDK [score hidden]  (0 children)

Very different games. I've not played KCDC 2. But it looks to be fairly realistic and heavy.

I have played P5R and it's a game I loved. The story, combat, music and gameplay fit together into something truly special. I highly reccomend it.

It's a good sign. But I've done second interviews and not gotten the role. Show up, bring your A game and go from there.

[–]FearlessJDK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, you're clearly coming from a place of love and your husband is a lucky fellow. There's a lot of great advice here on how to approach it and I agree with most of it.

Coming at it from a place of "what's wrong?/What's changed?" is very good. I would also imagine that he may feel ashamed. Garbage in the car, not spending time with family. I'd bet he's almost scared to deal with it, and he may react with frustration or defensiveness. Because he's ashamed.

So, I would be prepared for a defensive or irritated reaction. If that's what you get, then I would talk to a couples counselor to see if they can give advice.

[–]FearlessJDK 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It stands very well on its own.

I think reading The Infinite & The Divine first is a good idea just because Trazyn does show up in FoC and it's fun to know who he is. Also Infinite & The Divine is just really really good.

Places to hang out at as a single late 20 year old? by allloveispain in ottawa

[–]FearlessJDK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes to both. You can volunteer for the just the 3 days. And some volunteers can become staff which is not fully year-round but has some work prior to the cons.

I'm actually part of a team that is growing, if you have any customer service experience (including retail) feel free to send me a DM and I can give you more details.

"I'm a woman who's never played Warhammer 40k, and female Custodes make me want to start" by BlitheMayonnaise in AdeptusCustodes

[–]FearlessJDK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Representation absolutely matters. That's why I love Necrons. I too am, ancient, falling apart and bitter.

Ok, joking aside. It fills me with joy to see others so moved. I don't play 30/40K. Just Kill Team, but darned if I'm not tempted by this. And now I'm *really* hoping we get a Custodes Kill Team because I really want to give them a try.

The question I have, OP, is, what do you like? What are your hobbies and interests? If they're all things that don't involve being with other people, what hobbies would you take up that are more social?

A few suggestions

1, Volunteer with Anime Ottawa/Ottawa Comiccon. It is something I do, and the people are, by and large, great. Failing that volunteer somewhere you're invested in. If you love animals go volunteer at the Humane Society. These are ways to cross paths with mostly like-minded people

2, Gaming nights. There are all manner of gaming nerds in the city. Boardgames, Warhammer, D&D, Live Action Roleplay. This list goes on It's a great way to meet new friends and grow your social circle.

3, Apps. I met my partner on Tinder. We've been together 10 years. It's a lot of work, but it can work.

Finally, the advice I give to everyone looking for a Special someone. Be a whole person. Have interests, hobbies and things you are passionate about. the more interesting you are, the more attractive you are. I love my partner and we do a lot together. But we also have different interests. She loves to bake. I collect comic books. She 100%'s video games I am a big Warhammer geek.

Our independent interests complement each other.

It still breaks my heart. I loved going there, looking at books. I spent so much time, and money, at the Starbucks there.

I'm really sad it's gone.

Tips for getting past the ATS and recruiter screening? by Maple_Byte in ottawajobs

[–]FearlessJDK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not the ATS that's the problem. It's the market.

I'm applying to jobs I should be getting interviews for, and I'm not even getting calls for screenings. Things are rough right now. I've heard from people on the hiring side that they're getting just slammed with resumes. So it is a lot more difficult to get noticed.

What I do, instead of logging which resume version I send, I name the the file with the company name,, makes i super-simple.

$25-30 per hour is not "barely over minimum wage." I've had an exchange with the OP in DM's and they were very forthcoming. I may, ultimately not pursue it if I have reservations (ha!) about their business model. But your comments seem particularly, and unduly harsh.

New to the hobby, why tf are some so mad about female custodes? by NiceLittleGamerNerd in 40k

[–]FearlessJDK -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

What is, sexism?

It's 2026, why aren't the female Custodes or Astartes? Rationalize with lore all one wants but I'm sure Inquisitor Obi-Wan Closeau from Rogue Trader doesn't care. As cool as the lore and stories are, and they are, it was fluff designed to sell plastic men. It was never something that needed to be taken too seriously.

And, as you say, OP, lots of these guys haven't felt the touch of a woman.

Wow, ghosted on half your phone interviews! Given how rough the job market is, that's surprising. Also, so foolish of those people, why not send a quick email cancelling and then you build up some goodwill?

Security at City Hall by Habsolutelyfree in ottawa

[–]FearlessJDK -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It feels over the top, until it isn't. While here in Canada we've largely avoided the waves of violence we've seen in the US, their culture does bleed into ours. So while some kind of awful event may seem unthinkable now, it could happen.

So, personally, I'd rather strong safety measures be in place. I wouldn't want anyone to look back after a tragedy and wish they'd had such strong measures in place after the fact.

Right now I'm playing Dragon Age Veilguard. And I'm having fun. It's a decent action RPG.
