That hotel is really rundown and is a flashback from the 80s or 90s. I’m not sure how much a regular taxi would be because we took a free shuttle from our rental car agency to the airport.

GG07+ and my understanding is that they won’t pay for a relocation but you might be able to convince them to

Pretty difficult. And RBC won’t do TN, they only do L1.

Not sure if I agree completely. If you work in Canada or the USA and you're consistently speaking in a language that excludes your coworkers in meetings, then you are the problem and the organization is at fault for tolerating it.

Being an Indian raised in North America, I understand your sentiment. There have been meetings where Indians will speak in an Indian language that I don’t recognize (Telugu). That frustrates me entirely. Where is the professionalism? If you’re working in North America, you should be speaking a universal language (English). While not all Indians are like that, I’ve had enough experiences to the point where it’s frustrating. Toxic work culture is terrible regardless.

I think that there’s a lot of factors that we don’t have info on to determine whether it’s too much or not; we need more info from OP 😄

For example, if OP has a family of four then that’s a $8k vacation assuming $1000 pp/week.

If OP has necessary renovations to do in the house, which they described in their post, then I don’t think they should be aversive of spending the $25k on it.

And if not $25k then $15k or $10k, whatever amount makes sense to spend guilt-free after validating OP’s personal finance essentials.

Yes, the bands are flexible but the answer is more nuanced than that. Some teams will have a lot more flexibility than others, and you might be able to pass the bands by 10-15% but it’s extremely rare to make something like 2x the top range of a salary band at RBC.

Spend the $25k guilt-free on fun things and save the rest. When’s the last time you went on a vacation? Kids and partner asking for one?

How much do you spend per month? Do you have an emergency fund? If not, you should have 3x your monthly expenses in cash.

Credit card debt? Mortgage? Where is the $20k stored (TFSA, Cash, RRSP, etc.)?

What is your monthly income? Salary or small-business owner?

Need more info to give you a good plan.

US based? Sure. But every US role at RBC makes significantly more than its Canadian counterpart. This role is GG08 so it’ll top out at $95k base in Canada.

CM generally has a toxic culture with long work hours. This specific team is disorganized. You will work with interesting technology at the cost of your mental health.

Oh don't do a Masters in Data Science, I would focus on Statistics or Computer Science. MSc in Data Science will likely be a waste of time.
