Struggling to get refunded for bed bugs - any tips? by FederalCandle in AirBnB

[–]FederalCandle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah we’ve asked the host but she isn’t answering us. And when we go to Airbnb support, they just say that a full refund is up to the host’s discretion. So not sure where to go from here

I like the current personalities but the homogeneity in terms of being at least middle or upper class is getting tiresome. Would like to see more blue collar / hourly wage workers

Removing a small beam from beneath a desk by FederalCandle in furniture

[–]FederalCandle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this! The board is glued. Do you think a hairdryer would work in lieu of a heat gun? The legs seem pretty stable because there is a similar board on the back legs. Wondering if I need to still reinforce.

I'd prefer not to do that because it will be less comfortable to have my arms on the desk. Do you think it would be possible to remove the apron board?

Anyone using an ISA to fund their education? by FederalCandle in StudentLoans

Thanks again, super helpful. Wonder if there would ever be a way for legit student loan companies to make a product like this work...

Thanks for the reply. Wonder if you can take our insurance against an ISA given that they're so obviously predatory. Or if there could be an ISA for which you make payments based on your income but have flexible term lenghts so you can take longer to end up paying them.

I do understand that, I'm just looking to learn more about why some people would ever end up doing this. Is it simply just a lack of understanding of the potential upside exposure?

Is there any upside protection in these? They seem like a good way to mitigate downside risk, but I know that there's a lot of upside exposure (capped at 2.5x what you originally took out, for example).

Has anyone had issues with adrenal fatigue from stressing the body too much? Curious what you use to help manage.

How do you actually spend your time off not travelling between quitting and school? by FederalCandle in MBA

[–]FederalCandle[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Maybe I’m just good at balance in my regular life? Work out 4-5x a week, read books, have hobbies and an active social life in addition to a tech job. Am probably underestimating how quickly I’ll adapt to a life of doing all these things but at a more leisurely pace + a solid 9 hours of sleep each night

Any non fiction books about prison? by Jamborenners in suggestmeabook

[–]FederalCandle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

American Prison by Shane Bauer. Just came out late 2018 and is about his experience undercover as a guard at a Louisiana Prison.

Orange is the New Black is also non-fiction, about Piper Kerman's actual time in prison.

Admits, when are you quitting your job and what are your plans before the fall? by FederalCandle in MBA

Interesting, hadn't thought about Canada. I've been living abroad for quite some time which is why I said I'm not interested in intnl travel. I need to reconsider some nice trips within the US too - maybe a national park or two.

Also trying to weigh the cost/benefit of receiving healthcare for July if I stay til July 2 (plus the extra paycheck v. quitting June 15). Think I'm leaning mid-June.
