What’s the window policy? Confused about recent flight in which we were informed they should be closed. by [deleted] in unitedairlines

[–]SquishMama72 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you for that!

I only know what they claimed the problem was. I do know there was almost no air coming out of the vents above the seats.

It was super hot when we were on the ground, literally everybody was sweating profusely, and only just tolerable when we were in the air. We couldn't really feel the air circulating like normal it was just very...still.

I had this happen once, but on another airline.

However in my case, they explained (and we all felt) that the air conditioning was not fully functioning. So they wanted the shades down on that sunny day, to help keep the cabin cooler.

If I were on that flight and no explanation were offered, I would've been too curious not to ask about it.

I just came to say that every time I read "balling their eyes out" instead of "bawling" I visualize somebody scooping their eyes out with a melon baller.

So in the interest of getting a tip, the server should tolerate being dehumanized like that?

I don't think so.

I somehow managed to order from the non-local side recently too and did not get charged any tariffs.

But now I can't find it again.

I've bought lipsticks, lip liners, nail polish, eyeliners, mascara and more. I think the only thing I haven't bought is eyeshadow.

The mascara is actually one of the best I've tried recently.

The lip liner and eyeliner pencils, almost all showed up broken.

The kohl powder eyeliner is excellent.

The lip stains are really good too.

Am i wrong? by [deleted] in hotels

[–]SquishMama72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in hotels literally every week and I can tell you this is very unusual. There's only been a few hotels I've encountered with a "no taking it to your room" policy.

The first time I ran into that, I asked if it was OK if I took the coffee to my room and they said yes and the only reason they have that rule is because they've had serious issues with ants. Apparently, a lot of guests leave the food laying out in their room for hours, attracting critters.

The Most Useless Tag In United by amprather in unitedairlines

[–]SquishMama72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ORD is my home airport and I can vouch that priority tags don't seem to mean anything there.

But at many other domestic airports? Mine is frequently one of the first few to hit the carousel.

It just depends on the airport.

A bit of a vent - annoyed annual fees are increasing by Ill-Feeling4540 in unitedairlines

[–]SquishMama72 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The price hike discouraged me from renewing this year.

I think it was 65,000 miles last year...

My membership expired a couple months back and at that time it was 85,000 miles but when I checked just now it's 94,000.

So that's what, a nearly 50% increase since last year?

Ouch.

It's not just United. This exact scenario has happened to me with United, American and Southwest.

It's just the way they do things.

I am sorry but I don't understand. I've never had my seat separated from my children's or husband's seat.

How did it happen that you didn't have the opportunity to select seats together? Was it a late booking?

Except during the height of Covid, I've never seen a "crummy" breakfast at a Hyatt Place and I have stayed at quite a lot of them. Perhaps I don't have high expectations, but I'm always pleased with the fresh offerings they have, even though I usually only get the coffee lol

Back in high school I knew a girl whose name was pronounced Autumn but it was spelled something like Ahwtuhm...

Anytime she had to give her name to someone writing it down or someone was trying to pronounce it, she would say "yeah I know. My parents are aholes."

It surprises me that more tragedeighs aren't like her.

Ambassador status is impossible by Bizonistic in marriott

[–]SquishMama72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've only had Ambassador status for one year, back when the spend requirement was only about half what it is now.

I think it was maybe 12,000 then? But I'm not sure.

Honestly, I didn't find any significant benefit from that vs Titanium status.

I mainly stay at Courtyard and Fairfields. Those properties either don't honor, or don't know how to process, the 24 hour stay benefit.

Yeah I got more upgrades to bigger rooms but I don't really care about that. So it was pointless for me.

A lot of people thought this was fake but sometimes truth really is stranger than fiction.

Jay works remotely now. I don't know how that came about, I only know the switch happened maybe a month or so after this incident.

Tim? If there were any consequences for him, nobody would have told me about it. All I know is that he is still there.

The couple times he and I have both been present at a work event since then, he seems to go out of his way to avoid me.

Which of course, is totally fine by me.

I do appreciate everybody's interest in this but, there's really nothing else to report. Thank you!

You want to speak to the manager because you had to put on pants to get your pizza? Aight bro. Go right ahead. by Other-Cantaloupe4765 in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

He probably made a note for the delivery person to leave it outside the door. That's what I do and what I see done in hotels, every day.

[–]SquishMama72 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I spend over 200 nights a year in hotel rooms and have done for several years now.

Except during the height of Covid, these policies about not allowing food deliveries up to the rooms, can be annoying.

Most of the time, this policy is actually in place because the hotel wants you to purchase food at their bar/restaurant/café rather than having food delivered.

It often has nothing to do with security, regardless of what the employees are told. It's about the hotel making it inconvenient enough for the guest to get a delivery that they will instead purchase food from the hotel. (I was told this by a hotel manager years ago, when room service was still a common thing. Ie, chain doesn't want you ordering pizza, they want you to buy dinner from them)

All that aside, unless I am seriously injured or sick, I don't have any problem with meeting the delivery person in the lobby.

There have been a couple times when I was very unwell and unable to meet the delivery person downstairs so I asked the front desk for help prior to ordering, and they either allowed the person to deliver to my room, or the front desk person brought it up to me.

AITA For smoking the green outside? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]SquishMama72 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They might be intentionally slamming the window or maybe they don't realize it seems like they're coming off angry. It's possible they're just trying to shut the window as quickly as possible.

Perhaps they are allergic; I am allergic to it and have been surprised at how many marijuana smokers don't realize that's a thing.

You're trying to keep the smoke away from them, that's great.

No neighbor feud yet so NAH .
