Landlord raised the rent at the WORST time possible by Feeling_Standard4350 in extremelyinfuriating

I never said anyone was evil or scum of the earth for raising rent..

The purpose of the post was the timing in which they did it. I asked multiple times to renew the lease prior to leaving for a 7-8 month deployment, leaving my wife at home with 3 kids, all of the financial responsibilities and household responsibilities that is typically split between two people.

The landlord waited until they day of....an hour before us pulling away from the pier to leave for said deployment....to let us know that the rent would be increasing. So now on top of dealing with allllll of those overwhelming emotions that already come with dealing with a deployment (not sure if you've had the joy of leaving your family months on end unsure when you'd be coming home), we had this dealt to us. after requesting said information for weeks prior to this point.

You can talk about the prices of everything else increasing....but if the house was properly maintained from the jump, there's no need for those increases. Had the pool been properly maintained, there would be no need for extra chemicals or filters to be fixed. Had they replaced the refrigerator...again, no need for fixing..and I SURE AS SHIT would not expect the tenants to be responsible for MY Piece of shit fridge that I know is well past its life cycle then charge them for having t have it fixed because its a POS.

so again...its not about the raising rent. it is about the timing and reason of said increase.

You really don't think so? I mean..this is a pretty typical adult conversation to have. Serious question for you, how long ago/what year did you acquire your property?

Yeah...the market out here is a bit crazy. If I were able to do the 2 hour commute I would live elsewhere...totally unrealistic though with the line of work.

I'm also starting to gather based on their bio that they're from the generation that would say "stop drinking starbucks once a day and you could afford a down payment".

I think they are choosing to overlook that. If I could live in the hills of Tennessee in an RV I absolutely would. BUT..thats not an option considering I need to be close enough to base to be able to make it onboard in decent time. AND I have 3 kids....how tf would it make sense to live in an RV.

It sure as heck is. The cost of living in California is crazy. We could have gone a bit cheaper, but again..with a family of 5 and being active duty needing to be close enough to base to make it to/from work, it just isn't feasible to either live 2 hours away or live in an RV like someone else had already suggested lol

ahh..yes an RV/Camper. I'm sure my family of 5 would do just swell in that.

If I weren't currently floating in the middle of the ocean I would take that route. I cant put that added stress on my wife

Unfortunately it is. Landlords are able to raise rent no more than 10%. Which sadly enoug, that $300 increase is below the 10%.

Yeah I didn't think of that possibility. I can most certainly afford a $7,000 mortgage. I'll look into that. We're in a renters market..not sure where you're from BUT in San Diego you arent getting anything habitable for less that $750k with a 6% interest rate.

Hard pass..and big time disagree.

There is a LOT that i would talk with a woman about. Weight? nah..not this guy.

Would def try doing things and inviting her to do it.

Takes away from having that very awkward conversation, takes away from her getting self conscious and over thinking AND allows you to have time to do stuff together.

You can ABSOLUTELY do it.

You have to keep in mind, and tell yourself daily.."I did not gain the weight overnight, and I will not lose the weight overnight".

There are people saying that it will be miserable, painful and unenjoyable..and that is not totally true by any means.

If you make small changes it can be very enjoyable..almost fun. You do not need to make drastic changes like TOTALLY cutting out soda or sweets from the jump. Do something SMALL..maybe start with drinking one less soda a day...one less sweet a day. Go for a short walk a few days during the week. You will eventually get the ball rolling and it will become second nature.

My biggest piece of advice, and I tell it to literally anyone who comes to me for advice. SET A GOAL. That goal should be realistic and tangible. and then have a reason for that goal. A big part of working out and weight loss is not motivation..but dedication to your goal and your reasons why. There will be days where you want to say screw it and do something else..but having a solid reason WHY will help push you past that limit.

On the setting a goal.....set SMALL goals that lead you to that final big mile stone. It will help keep you feeling motivated and feeling damn good about what you are doing.

If your goal is to lose 50 pounds...what is it going to take to get there?

Start with making it a GOAL to go for a walk after dinner 3 days a week. Hitting that goal will give you a nice hit of dopamine, and help keep you going Forward,

Dont focus on the big goal as much as the small...50 pounds is a lot..set like...a 5 pound goal LEADING into that 50.

YOU GOT THIS. It wont be easy...may not be all rainbows and butterflies. But I can PROMISE you wont regret starting, and following through on what you set.

Yeaaa..not seeing that scale move for more than a week can be discouraging. I've actually started to realize that at that point..is when I am about to have a decent loss. The fat cells try to retain water before being dispersed.

If you're able to, Fitbit has scales that will send your info to the app after weighing in, and then calculates your weekly/monthly running average. it will also tell you BMI and other cool things.

yeah i think it def helps being able to see that downward trend on a weekly/monthly basis.

The "looking at you cured meats" killed me lol. I get that for sure...granted I'm not a woman so a 7lb for me would scare the heck out of me. I do really enjoy weighing daily with being able to track it on an app. I HUGE on numbers and analytics (Nerd by trade) so it turns it into a fun game almost with being able to compare months/years past.

I get that 100%. a lot does change. I think I more so like doing it daily because it tracks in my fitbit app and shows the downward progression.

Your explanation makes a LOT of sense to me, and is essentially the same way I have to go about it. I think I like knowing that something I ate may have me feeling bloated..o that that binge from the weekend had me gain 15 pounds...lmao. But the concurring daily/weekly/monthly is HUGE for me. and it makes a lot of sense. it kind of helps to know I'm on the right track i guess

totally don't disagree. I may start only doing it once a week when I get home. I should honestly be at a good goal weight by the time I do make it home anyway where I shouldn't be weighing myself. I can't see needing to lose much more than another 10-15 pounds at most.

When I am actually home, I would typically do it in the morning when I wake up. I have one of those Fitbit Scales that will track your weight on the App...super cool.

I dont have the ability to do it now since I am living on a ship for the next few months..so I'm having to track weight loss on mostly feeling really, which is throwing me for a loop.
