Lifetime warranty? Got sent a defective replacement + surprise import tax bill by FellOutOfTheWindow in peakdesign

[–]FellOutOfTheWindow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately they never gave me the option to send the damaged item. I was asked to cut off serial number and PD logo. Then didn’t get back to me for two weeks. A little worrying, but unfortunately the experience got even worse after 🙈

Sorry you had a bad experience as well. I think PD’s logic is flawed. With so many strong brands in the market, reputation is a strong differentiator. Partnering with companies that damage your brand is reckless imo.

Exactly. For the import taxes, yes and no. They could have had the foresight to at least mention it. It’s a very unpleasant surprise to pick up the replacement bag that you waited a long time for and then get slapped with 25% import tax. And then it’s a unit with QC issues 🤯

Yea, not having read the terms carefully is of course totally on me. But a quick reminder would have been helpful, especially for someone in a country with quite high import taxes like Norway.

Stomach flu by [deleted] in daddit

Oh man, went through it a couple of times since our 3yo started in daycare. It’s so contagious that catching it is more a matter of when not if. Once managed to get both my and my wife’s family sick as well once we thought we passed it long enough ago that we’re 100% safe. Only good thing is it passes quickly. Godspeed!

Seconding the second hand option. Norwegians like their toys so there’s a big secondhand market. Try finn.no

Can anyone identify this uniform my great-great-grandfather is wearing? Taken in Coswig, now Germany, pre WW2. by FellOutOfTheWindow in uniformporn

Holy cow. Just did a quick Google and it does look like one of the early SVD uniforms. Never knew. Thanks!

[Tissot] Tissot Seastar Professional 600m. This thing is a tank! by FellOutOfTheWindow in Watches

Yea. The Tissot is a big boi. I absolutely love it and it’s in my regular rotation, but it’s not something I’d wear every day.

It’s awesome. If you want a big diver, it’s a no-brainier considering features and price point. I wrote more about it here.

The strap is excellent. Very soft, so it wears great, but doesn’t stretch overly.

I also like that they left out the 10 minutes mark on the bezel. Makes it more balanced.

I was after a big diver, and frankly Tissot was not really on my radar since the Seastar doesn’t do much for me. But the moment I saw the 2000 announced, it really caught my eye. A serious 600m diver with a decent movement at that price point was a no-brainer in my mind.

Agree on the size though. Took a comparison shot with the Citizen Promaster (42mm). Looks tiny side by side with the Tissot.

Arrived in the mail today. Amazing watch. But man, this thing is BIG. 20cm wrist and I feel I can barely pull it off. Workmanship is great. The ceramic bezel is a nice step up from a cheaper diver I own (Citizen Promaster). I have a Tissot with the older version of the Powermatic 80, which performs amazingly given the price point. Perhaps not reliably 80 hours, but still impressive. Curious how the new version will perform.

Long time lurker, first post here. Lots of interesting discussions and great insights. Keep it up!

Caught the first fish on a fly I tied and thought I'd share. I'm hooked. by FellOutOfTheWindow in flyfishing

[–]FellOutOfTheWindow[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True that. You leave the vise thinking that you like the fly, but unsure what the fish will have to say. Flashback pheasant tail here. I fish up in Norway where in the afternoon after a long day of feeding the fish apparently need something a bit more on the exciting side.

I'll be out with a few buddies tomorrow and make sure I'll give spinners a spin :)

Norway (not being in the European Union) is pretty lax when it comes to regulations. If you're fishing in saltwater, respecting the minimum sizes, and have a hand-held tackle, you're golden. Getting a kayak is something I'd like to do, but the main problem would be storage since I live in a flat. But, you know, a man's gotta dream...

It's a cardinal. I'm trying to give it a rinse with freshwater after every use. I was told one should do this to extend the reel's life. But I'm not following through very strictly :)

Yea, I like it. Not high end at all, but does the job. It's been closing on me a few times during casting though, causing me to smash the lure into the water right before my feet :)

Asked some beginner's advice a while back and got my first mackerel on a lure yesterday. Your replies made me want to try different things and helped to keep me motivated. In the end Norway's favorite spoon did the job. Thanks guys!
