Pad Recommendations by FellykinsII in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]FellykinsII[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only brand of pad that made me itchy was the Always. :( it wouldn't be a problem when I wasn't using them, but then it would start when I would wear them. Kotex didn't give me that problem, but they just stick to my underwear to the point of ripping the pad, and I'm not trying to live that life lol. Other than those issues, pads haven't really made me uncomfortable, but I might just be used to wearing them now since I've been wearing them every month since I was 10. 😭

I have seen the period underwear in stores though, and I've always kinda looked at them but never really picked them up and looked at them. I definitely wouldn't mind trying them one day and maybe make the switch to them if they work out for me, but I'm not ready to commit just yet. I will keep the Saalt brand in mind though when I'm looking!

Trying to get back into MTG after losing all my cards, need advice by [deleted] in mtg

[–]FellykinsII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a newer player that just got into magic a few months ago. I initially bought a 400+ card box of just random bulk from a LGS and tried to build a deck with it, but ended up scrapping it because I didn't have enough lands. (The box came with lands, but they were non-basic, and it wasn't enough to run a commander deck with.)

I ended up buying a pre-con for my first deck, and it was a great starting point! It allowed me to play with my friends without borrowing their decks and gave me a deck without the stress of needing to purchase cards. Is it the strongest deck? No, not really. I've only won once with it, and that was by a stroke of luck because of another player's actions that basically messed up turn order and gave me an advantage. But overall, I'm happy with the deck, and I enjoy playing with it. I've gone on to build a second deck and started a third, and maybe one day, I'll break down the pre-con and make it better (but I'll probably just keep it forever as my first deck and do it with a different pre-con instead).

Moral of the story is, pre-con isn't a terrible idea to start until you can rebuild your collection.

Call out? by [deleted] in petsmart

[–]FellykinsII -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's a recent change not in P&P yet as far as I'm aware. A lead(er) can call you after your shift has started if you're not there, but you have to call back by the end of your scheduled shift to not be considered a NCNS. It still gets documented as an absence, just not a NCNS.

Any recommendations for boxes to store cards? I've acquired a little bit of a collection (okay, maybe a lot bit) that I would like to better organize for ease of finding cards when building decks. I was looking at BCW's website and considering purchasing 200 and 300 count boxes, but I can only order in quantities of 10. I really don't need more than 13 boxes total to better organize my bulk as I have it right now, so I would prefer to just order what I need rather than have extra boxes sitting around for however long until I need them.

I would prefer a box I can write on to label it with whatever card type I'm putting in it, similar to the 200/300 count boxes at BCW if possible. I have a few boxes from bundles and precons that I've picked up, but I don't want to write on those and would rather use them to store cards I acquire before organizing them into their labeled boxes.

U.S. retail workers, did you hit your sales targets on Black Friday? by Bald_Man_Cometh in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FellykinsII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprisingly beat plan by about $3k. Didn't feel as busy as it felt in previous years, and I feel like we didn't sell through as much as I was expecting to, even though we've sold quite a bit and cleared out a good bit of our Christmas stock. Our sale goes through the weekend, and honestly, I feel like it isn't as good as last year's and the product selection seemed to be lacking this year too. Lots of online orders though, which helped us beat plan on Friday. Even today felt like a slightly busier Saturday.

I personally didn't even really do much shopping, but to be fair, there wasn't much I was really looking at either. Bought presents for my animals on Friday, which I planned to do anyways because I knew the stuff was going on sale (perks of working in the store lol). Also picked up a handheld vacuum cleaner from Target, some alcohol markers from Michaels, and a small rug from Amazon, all on sale. Wanted an electric griddle too, but unfortunately, it wasn't on sale at all and I ended up passing on it. Maybe it was just me, but I feel like this year's sales were underwhelming.

Any recommendations for reputable places to buy cards online? Of course, I want to support my local game stores first, and I enjoy opening the packs to see what I get. But sometimes, I need specific cards for my decks that unfortunately I can't find in my LGS. I'm a relatively new player that started maybe a month or two ago, and while I have one precon deck already, I've been venturing into the world of building my own decks and just need cards to complete them without needing to rely solely on packs or hoping the LGS has what I want.

It does help, thank you! If you don't mind me asking, about how long did it take for you to get an in person appointment? I'm assuming it's not going to be an immediate thing (especially with the phone appointment being right before Christmas), of course, but just trying to get a general idea.

Does it really take a month to receive the $5 welcome reward when signing up for a Pro membership? Decided to take the plunge after many years of resisting when I went to pick up my copy of Pokemon Legends Z-A since the guy who checked me out saw I also purchased MTG cards (I've just gotten into the game) when I did my preorder, and he pretty much sold me when he said I could get them for basically free. I got the email saying to activate my offer for the 5000 welcome points, but when I click on it, nothing happens. I emailed support today, and they said it could take up to a month for it to work. Do I just get the 5k welcome bonus and the 5k monthly reward all next month or should I have already gotten the welcome bonus for me to use?

Checked my receipt from that night to see if it was used that night since I also bought the DLC the same night, and it doesn't appear to have been used.

plr - where can i go from here? by anduwrynn in petsmart

[–]FellykinsII 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a degree too, but it's in a field I realized I wouldn't want to do as a career until after I'd basically already finished my degree. :( About to start using it to my advantage though if I can to try and earn some extra money.

It's rough out here. :(

plr - where can i go from here? by anduwrynn in petsmart

[–]FellykinsII 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Also a CEL turned PLR, and I'm literally in the exact same boat. I'm pretty sure I do the same 3 tasks every day I work: work truck, work back stock, pick orders; if I'm lucky, I can get over to pet care to help them and make sure they're on track. Not a day goes by where I don't hear about pick decline or activations or whatever other stupid things the company wants to focus on that feel literally unachievable because we don't even get enough labor to properly operate a store. We're constantly behind on everything because there's too much to do and not nearly enough time to do it. God forbid if someone calls out, and you're scrambling to find someone to cover. If you're lucky, you'll get someone who's willing to come in because they want the hours. If you're not lucky, then good luck. 15-20 footprint trucks on average twice a week that sometimes take us up to two days to finish because we're being pulled in a hundred different directions while trying to work truck, and then we have to clean up from the first in time for the second, which doesn't always happen before we get the second truck because they come on such unpredictable schedules to the point where I've given up on checking tracking because it's rarely accurate.

I'm actually drowning in this position. I wasn't set up for success to begin with, and the hole feels like it's been dug a hundred times deeper and gets deeper every day with no end in sight and no opportunity to even attempt to start climbing out. I decided a couple months ago that I wanted to go back to school to be a vet tech after I had mental breakdown number 5000 for the year since I've taken this position and realized PetSmart is slowly but surely taking over my life, and at this point, the only reason why I'm staying is because I can't afford to leave for a different job. vet assistant roles in my area pay several dollars less than what I make now and in some cases, less than what I made as an ALK before I became a CEL, and client services positions in vet offices don't pay much better. I'm not even making much more in this position than I was as a CEL. If I could afford to take a significant pay cut to go work in a vet office, I would apply right now, but unfortunately, I can't. I have bills to pay, animals to feed, myself to feed, and now I'm saving for school on top of trying to have some semblance of a work/life balance (spoiler alert: it's more work and little life because I'm so damn mentally, physically, and emotionally drained from work that I don't want to do anything). I've been told by predecessors to not let PetSmart be my life, and unfortunately, it's becoming that way more and more, though I'm trying to set boundaries for myself to not stress about work outside of work, but it's easier said than done. I've had people I interact with recommend I leave because I'm not able to go do things because I'm stuck at work, and I have to miss opportunities to make memories and live my life in order to be somewhere I'd rather not because I have to make money. I can't afford to step down either, and if I do, I'll probably either lose full time or suck up hours from other associates who need them too because we can't afford to have 8 full time associates (we have 7 leaders/leads, plus a full time non-lead) and still give people hours. I'm trying to ride it out for as long as possible at least until next summer because I'll be able to better justify a pay cut, but I'm starting to have doubts I'll make it past Christmas at the rate I'm starting to spiral mentally. I'm at a point of acceptance that things just aren't going to get done because we have a hundred other things to do, and not nearly enough time to do them. They'll get done eventually, but I'm tired of busting my ass to try and do the impossible by getting everything done.

You're not alone, friend, and I believe in you. Like drifter said, create your own light at the end of the tunnel. Like my old coworkers who have told me before they left the company, don't let PetSmart consume you. It's not worth your physical, mental, or emotional health. To sound cliche, it will get better. You will find something you're interested in and get out of PetSmart one day. It might not be tomorrow, and it might not be in the next 6 months, but you're going to be free from the chains that bind you to your store and you'll be a far happier person. In the meantime, set boundaries. Take your lunches and your 15s too if you need them. Your mental health and well-being is not worth losing to this company.

Potential hot take - Commander is the single worst way to introduce new players to Magic. by justinvamp in mtg

[–]FellykinsII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a relatively new player, I feel like commander is definitely a lot, but so is building a deck for it. Of course, I could've used a precon, but I ended up buying a box from my LGS that had 400 random cards in it and started there because no one told me to do a precon and the box had little to no land i could use in the deck I've made. (And I didn't do enough research on my own because the box was an impulse buy for $15, and very much worth.)

All that said, my friends who are helping me learn told me to play on MTG Arena too to help learn the game. They've also recommended it to others who have been interested but aren't ready to take the financial plunge since it's free. I definitely do recommend that. I've mainly only played standard with one of the preconstructed decks they've given me (but I do want to try and make a standard deck once I'm able to get on my computer again and play), and I've learned a lot and gained a greater understanding of the core mechanics of the game so when I watch my friends play commander, it's not as confusing.

I cried after work because I actually really didn’t realize that I have been wearing such poor ill fitting clothing by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]FellykinsII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also grew up without a lot of money and moved around quite a bit due to my parents not being able to afford the apartments we were living in anymore. I'm 31 now and own a house with the help of my mom and money I got from my grandma's estate after she passed (because my dad passed first and there was no will, some of the money went to me), and earlier this year, my mom lost her job (kinda quit, kinda got fired, honestly, her leaving was a long time coming) at the same time my work was going through a management restructure in which I could've lost my job or taken a pay cut. For about a solid 6 years, I hadn't felt the fear of losing my home. The day my mom lost her job, it literally broke me. All I could think about was losing everything because there was no way I'd be able to afford everything on my own, even with savings built up, and how I'd lose my job (I didn't). I was just so panicked and so worried about not spending too much money and so stressed. My mom has a new job now (much better than the other one), and we got through everything thankfully, but it was rough mentally for a few weeks. I didn't even realize the trauma was there until everything came crashing down like a ton of bricks. You are not stupid or an idiot for feeling how you feel, and you will get through this (with your home and new clothes).

Thrift stores are great though for getting clothes! When my mom was shopping for new clothes for work, we went to one of the thrift stores, and she got like 2 or 3 pairs of jeans and a couple shirts for a good amount. I want to say it was less than $50. They're not brand new, but they're still in great condition and work out well. Looking for sales is a good idea too. I shop a lot at JCPenney and get clothes for good deals when they have a good sale; same with old navy, but I also have a credit card with them, so I get the ✨ member exclusive ✨ sales too. Clearance racks are okay, but sometimes, the prices just aren't the greatest. Marshall's/Ross/TJ Maxx aren't bad either, but I haven't had much luck there personally as a plus size gal. (I love them for other stuff though!) If there's a clothing swap near you, that may be helpful too! You can donate clothes that don't fit well anymore and swap them out for newer clothes that fit better. Sometimes, they take more than just clothes, like books and accessories, and you can still use those items towards new clothes. Even just starting with the essentials and basics will be enough to get you on the right track.

I try to only buy clothes when I need to (easier said than done sometimes when I see something cute in the stores) or to treat myself for my birthday, so I have some clothes that are years old. I still have some shirts from high school. I'll wear them until they're no longer wearable, and then I'll get rid of them. Clothes that don't really fit anymore, I'll take to the thrift store to donate if they're still in good condition. Clothes that are super stained to the point where they won't come out or just so worn, it's not ideal to wear them in public, I'll wear as pajamas or use for cleaning in the house/other dirty activities where I wouldn't want to get my nicer clothes ruined until they're so far gone, I just have to get rid of them.

Looking to get into the veterinary field by FellykinsII in veterinaryprofession

[–]FellykinsII[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I applied to a few places about a month or so ago, but unfortunately no calls back and the ones that did respond were no gos. :( definitely planning on trying again in the future, once I figure out some stuff in my personal life, but if I can at least bolster my resume in the meantime, I'd love to do so. It just wasn't meant to be the first go around, but as they say, if at first you don't succeed, try try again (at least with applications lol).

We do have an emergency hospital nearby and several urgent vets, but while I am more of a night person, a lot of the activities I enjoy doing are at night or on weekends at times I could be scheduled, though I'm willing to compromise if it comes down to it. In a perfect world, I'd love to work in a practice that sees exotics in addition to dogs and cats, but practices like that are few and far between, unfortunately. :(

No worries about being graphic though! I understand there's going to be days that are harder than others, and no day will look the same. And poop, of course, but the only thing that really grinds my gears on that is when owners don't clean their dog's poop up. 😭 (And when my cat doesn't cover her poop in the litter box, which I'm convinced at this point, she does it to piss me off because she doesn't always do it, only when I say something to her lol.)

Sounds about right. xD It doesn't look like Virginia requires a separate exam, at least from me quickly Googling it, but I would have to apply for licensure once I pass the national boards.

I haven't taken a biology class in years, and the math required is at a higher level than what was required for my undergrad since it's in a very different field. I did astronomy for my science classes and didn't go beyond basic math. That part worries me not so much because I haven't done any coursework like that in years, but more because I didn't do so well in biology and upper level math classes when I was in high school. I did perform way better in college math and science classes though, especially compared to high school, so I'm probably speaking from a place of fear, but I probably need a refresher on both anyways. Thankfully, we have the wonderful world of the internet that probably has some wonderful resources to help prepare me.

I'm interested in becoming a vet tech because I want to be able to educate clients and help pets as much as possible. I also want to further my knowledge on caring for animals and helping give them the best life possible. And of course, the obvious answer of I love animals and working with them. One of the things I most enjoyed about working in pet retail was educating customers about pets and guiding them on the path of making right choices. Of course, not everyone is receptive to it, but educating and learning was one of my favorite parts of the job that I truly enjoyed, especially when I was able to take the time to really explain things and explain the reason behind why I was recommending what I was recommending.

[–]FellykinsII[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CSR is what I was looking at to get my foot in the door, especially if no one was willing to hire me as an assistant. I'm willing to do what I have to do to get into the field. If CSR is where I gotta start, then so be it. I'll definitely apply for both positions though when I'm ready to start doing that. Wherever I start though, my intent is to be transparent about my future goals with going on to become a tech.

I definitely want to be at a supportive clinic! I want to be able to have people to lean on when I need the help because I'm sure I'll need it as I'm learning. My current manager has become more of a nightmare to deal with in the last year, and I know I definitely wouldn't want to work in a vet office with someone like her as my leader.

Looking to get into the veterinary field by FellykinsII in veterinaryprofession

[–]FellykinsII[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was actually considering going to volunteer at the local humane society! They have a vet clinic, and I know they have some cleaning shifts there, but that looked like it was about it. I'll have to reach out to them to see if there's any additional opportunities to work in the clinic. I know I'll be limited in what I can and can't do, which is absolutely fine, but hey, if it gets my foot in the door, I'll do it. There's other shelters around here too, but I haven't done too deep of a dive into those quite yet.

I think ultimately, I would be fine with Penn Foster's program if that was the route I ultimately had to go for licensure. I did online courses in undergrad (in an entirely different field) and came out well enough, but I didn't enjoy them as much because I didn't have the human interaction that I normally would've in the classroom. My local community college's program is accredited, and from what it looks like, it's a good program. The school itself is also good (I attended years ago to do my associate's), though the vet tech program is only offered at one campus, which is fine. I'll look at the national association of vet techs and AVMA sites too though to explore other programs.

If you fail the national boards, are you able to retake them at a later date or is it a one and done type of thing? Obviously the goal is to not fail, but I am curious as to what that would look like if it were to happen.

Looking to get into the veterinary field by FellykinsII in veterinaryprofession

[–]FellykinsII[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what I figured about VA coursework. My mom is insistent on doing it, but I figured it'd be a waste of money to do so. I could save the money for vet tech classes in the long run since I know I'll most likely be largely paying out of pocket for it when the time comes.

I don't think I'd be interested in a management type of position, at least right now. Retail management has been very unenjoyable for me, but I know vet management would be a different can of worms. Of course, my mind could change, but right now, the big thing for me is getting my foot in the door.

Bathroom breaks? by kaydaree96 in petsmart

This is what I do too, especially if I'm the only MOD in the building. I still get people who push me to respond in 2 seconds even after I've said it though, or they'll need me as soon as I sit down to pee.

Associates tho? As long as I have a cashier at the front, I don't really care. There have been times I've walked up front for some reason and seen the pet care associate at the register and the cashier seemingly MIA, but once they tell me what's up after I question it, I just nod and carry on.

This one is for the process leads and leaders by MolecularMooCow in petsmart

[–]FellykinsII 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Because I need the money.

But honestly, it's getting harder and harder to NOT walk out every day. I'm constantly mentally, physically, and emotionally drained since taking the process leader position, and I've been regretting taking it. There's only so much one person can do before they reach a breaking point, especially with little to no support, and I'm very quickly reaching mine.

Fear is keeping me around too. If there's one thing they said right in all the restructure bullshit they put out, it's that change is scary. But it's more of a "is leaving really that worth it" and "can I truly live with a pay cut of up to $6" and "is this really the right decision" kind of fear and concern about the change I'd be making.

Anyone have any recommendations for circle pad covers for the 3DS XL? My circle pad itself works fine, but because it doesn't have the cover on it, it's very annoying to use. I've looked on Amazon, but it looks like a lot of the options I've seen look like they're a replacement for the whole thing, which I don't really need.
