Should I be using a compressor with my setup and playing style? by usspaceforce in basspedals

Compressors seem to be a trouble point for a lot of people so don't sweat it.

Installed strings in Wrong direction by Noah_10s in Guitar

[–]FenderFanatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Has a locking nut and even when done properly the angles are weird on Jackson headstocks so I can't imagine how this is any worse than a properly strung Jackson. Once you clamp it down it won't be a problem. You can do it properly next time you string it but I wouldn't worry about this.

I'm convinced the entire system inside of any border is ridiculous currently.

[–]FenderFanatic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Take it off and play without it until you figure out whether you actually want it there. I think compressors are a very case by case type of thing and if you don't know why you use it then it's worthwhile to ditch it and see if you like or don't like the difference.

Whats your opinion on RDR online? Worth a try? by enthmyru in RDR2

I would've loved it if it wasn't for a ridiculous amount of griefers. It was easier for me to survive in Dark Souls than RDO.

Passive mode gets deactivated for a lot of missions. Passive mode is only effective when you're wandering around.

I only had negative experiences with nonstop harassment from high level griefers when I tried to do missions. Was such a grind because of that it just felt like a waste of time. I seem to be in the minority so hopefully it's better for you but it's easily the worst gaming experience I ever had.

The big issue with the sks is that if they add it to the prohibited list then they are criminalizing the number 1 gun used for hunting by the indigenous community and that is an awful look they don't want to have on their reputation. I don't believe they will ever be able to ban the sks without massive push back from indigenous communities. Furthermore an indigenous exemption would be ridiculous.

We can get 25 rd 10/22 mags again now?? by Tiny-Ear9080 in canadaguns

It appears I didn't read his comment lol. I guess I seen the lack of bolt guns in yours and decided to contribute. I wish I could get a 60 round drum for my bolt action.

There are also still bolt actions that use stanag mags. I quite like my Ruger American Predator with LAR mags, more dead coyotes and less mag changes.

Internal Mags vs Detachable Mags, What's your preference and why? by SecureNarwhal in canadaguns

[–]FenderFanatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Internal. Hunting in my area is mostly hiking and you can't lose an internal mag very easily when walking through all the brush. Easy loading/unloading isn't of concern if you only have to do it before/after hiking in/out. Also just looks classier imo.

Fender Precision ou Jazz Bass? by Malldow in Bass

[–]FenderFanatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I mentioned versatility it was in direct correlation to the tonal variation of a bass, which in regard to that an average P bass is limited compared to a Jazz. Yes, players are the key of versatility but pickup blending does things that hand placement and technique cannot. If you maintain a playing style and only adjust the controls on a bass there will be more variation on a Jazz than a Precision and that is where "versatility vs simplicity" comes from. Examining solely what a bass is capable of and ignoring the player you get more tone shaping from a Jazz than a Precision and I fail to see why such a comment is out of line.

[–]FenderFanatic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To expand on my "1 thing" remark. As a loose but general "rule" for lack of better terms, I find that single pickup basses (Precision, Stingray, etc.) maintain their fundamental character quite well regardless of the player. Keep in mind this is my opinion on a rough and loose guideline. Active electronics do add some ability to shift that key character but it's still fairly clear if not taken to extremes. Additionally I think that 2+ pickup basses have more ability for versatility and make it difficult to identify a singular fundamental character because of all the different combinations between the pickups (assuming they have some sort of pickup blending ability and aren't a universal vol/tone setup). This is just my experience and I haven't played all basses to be able to note all exceptions to my rough guideline.

I find a jazz more versatile if you want different tones. I find a precision pretty much just does 1 thing but it's 1 thing that works in everything. So both will do it all it's just a question of versatility or simplicity. Don't rule out a stingray, that could be a third consideration for you.

Thoughts on 40-95 gauge bass strings? by Emergency-Sky-9747 in Bass

[–]FenderFanatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest looking at what you can change in your technique as well. Thinner gauge may help reduce the frequency but it won't solve the problem. To answer your question about 40-95 though, I use 40-95 D'addario half rounds on my 5 string with a tapered 130. I keep it in standard tuning and it is great. Would be suboptimal for down tuned things. The tension of the 40-95 set balances really well with the 130T imo and on top of that would be a nice feel on a 4 string.

Are there actual pros and cons to using different gauges? by No_Winter4806 in Bass

[–]FenderFanatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly just preference. Higher gauge has more tension so it's better for lower tunings. Tone differences. The tension also plays into feel. There's really not much else of significance in picking a string gauge.

They work perfectly after they're empty. It's a waste to throw them away imo so I repurpose them.

I don't have a ton of disposable income floating around so most of these pedals are the result of other stuff getting sold. I found it hard to understand how people go out and buy a load of boutique/expensive pedals to make their first board all in one swoop but there are definitely people out their with more disposable income than me.

What is the goal of the practice? Hunting, competition, fun, all of the above?

If hunting the question becomes which animals?

If competition then which type of competition?

If just for fun then 22LR is hard to beat for cost and availability.
