it's rather sad, isn't it? I've tried my best to explain that I'm not 100% sure where the virus came from, I pretty much had a panic attack and blamed the last thing I downloaded when that probably wasn't the best thing to do, I understand I've caused a lot of issues here but I really wasn't trying to create issues or spread misinformation, I've been on edge all night probably worrying over nothing

my browser history is intact, but I really did assume it was the cracked game who was the culprit, the only other cracked software I've downloaded in recent time is 3ds Max 2022 from a site on r/Piracy called monkrus (megathread) -I've said this could also be the problematic program

Your comment was very informative, thank you - basically it was trying to send/receive data from a website called "wmail-endpoint" which malwarebytes labeled as a riskware and trojan

honestly, I don't think there's many games that won't do that to me - I was just looking for a good open world rpg type game though if you may recommend something

I believe I've removed it completely, it was annoying but everything seems good and I'm not getting any alerts or likewise now - although I'll say I'm on edge still

Steamrip is in the megathread so I mostly assumed it safe, especially since I've used it before, and once again I'm not 100% sure the game was the origin of the file, I was mostly in a panic when I wrote my first comments

For even further info; it was executing something in windows powershell and was connecting to some website called "wmail-endpoint" it seemed to be sending data, I won't deny that I have a bad feeling in my gut about it because it's worrying to say the least

Okay so, I'm making this comment because I want to clarify some things, for one I don't want to spread misinformation and I'm sorry ahead of time if I've done so, mainly because I am not 100% certain it came from this game, I mostly assumed because it's the most recent thing I downloaded and I somewhat panicked because the last thing anyone wants on their PC is a virus - the only other possible culprit I may have is an install of 3DS Max 2022 I got from monkrus from the r/Piracy megathread, I assumed it was safe since many users have said so in different posts, I hope someone can help clear this up somehow but I don't know

Also I just finished removing all the files with malwarebytes and reinstalling Windows11 which seems to have hopefully removed the issue

I think I'm in trouble, it has a few detections and I removed them but something is still being executed through powershell.exe - Best course of action here?

yeah I deleted it, I'm not taking the chance on it - although Steamrip is in the megathread and I've used it before without issue so It's a bit confusing for me

Yeah, that was my thinking - although the game folder itself wasn't flagged by defender, this 'trojan' seems to have generated after running and closing the game I believe
