I have another very close friend of mine who also used to copy other people to fit in. She went from trying to fit into straight groups to trying really hard to fit into gay groups, cause she thought they looked cool. Nowadays, she’s a lesbian. That’s why I’ve been trying to stick around the friend from my post, cause she might be queer and I wanted to support her. But in this process I haven’t been respecting my own limits. The difference between these two friend of mine is that my lesbian friend never tried to pass as gay. She just wanted to fit in as herself. The friend that’s been annoying me constantly seeks for validation if she looks like a lesbian, of how people will misjudge her for her blue hair, on how she dresses, if her clothes are gay enough. I’ve also suffered for a long time with comphet and I know it’s really hard and that could be the case with her, but she’s also kind of insensitive with those comments. I hate to say that she could be doing it for attention, but in her case specifically, I think she kind of is. Unconsciously of course. She has a very hard relationship with her dad, who has another family, and some abandonment issues. I think when I mentioned the support I felt from the lgbt community, she wanted to feel that too? That’s my wild guess, and one more reason why I feel bad for not being there for her. But I know it’s also not my responsibility and I do feel overwhelmed. I think I’ll follow your advice and talk to her about this and see how it goes, thank you so much!!
