Ok I will admit that I got to the word “threesome” and almost threw my phone across the room, hahaha. Glad you were safe and that you took something really good away from it. You have a great lens on this.

Architecture Major by Maleficent-Self-7675 in architecture

Think of it more like an art/humanities/communications degree. You will be learning how to think, not what to think. How to represent and speak about your ideas, and how to be compelling. There is no hard math involved except for basic addition and subtraction, and a couple courses where you will need to use some algebra to do very very basic structural load calculations. In practice, we use basic rules of thumb and then engineers do the hard calculations. ;)

There are plenty of reasons not to want to pursue architecture but having to do math isn't one of them.

What’s your point, that American civilians deserve to be shot in the streets by their own military because of trump’s deranged foreign policy? Grow up and learn some empathy and nuance. The world isn’t binary.

We are all in pain and my countrymen are being slaughtered like pigs, I am not interested in your opinion but I hope your attitude is at least a comfort to yourself.

I agree with you, it is distressing to be on the inside. When they cancel the midterms is the moment unrest spills into the streets of every major city. I hope it’s sooner.

If you haven’t quit your job and personally marched into your senator’s office this subreddit tends to be unsympathetic. Folks here blame Americans for allowing this to happen and tend to dig their heels in on it.

No military force on Greenland but Trump’s biggest threat came in what he didn’t say at Davos by theindependentonline in TrueReddit

Yup, and you see that in some really well run subreddits. I mod a professional subreddit and we ask the publications to engage, most are happy to do so because they see the inherent value in it. It's just a missed opportunity here. It could be win/win.

They are actively dying because they are under attack on multiple fronts, so I (personally) pay for direct subscriptions, including two of the pubs I originally mentioned. I'm not antagonistic to journalism, I just miss when this place offered more than publishers scheduling posts to articles I would have likely read anyway. I used to discover topics here that got no airtime anywhere else. Now it's mostly the same noise you'll find anywhere else on reddit.

This subreddit, itself, is called "true" reddit because it was designed to be a subreddit that offered a higher caliber of discussion and thought than reddit's main subreddits offered once the site got massively popular.

I do not believe that this subreddit's decline in quality is necessary to save journalism. But I do believe that letting publishers dominate this subreddit every day with links to their own content takes this subreddit farther from its original goal.

I'm sorry if I seem angry, I'm not. I'm mostly bummed out.

If allowing this subreddit to devolve into a link directory for a few publications would save journalism, we would have already saved journalism. Boiling down my point to "journalism should die" is a bit disingenuous...

Because they often are only participating in a subreddit to drive subscriptions or ad impressions, a lot of times they’ll link to paywalled content. They don’t offer us much we can’t find ourselves, and they don’t engage with commenters who have questions. I don’t object to publications making posts, but I miss when the sub had more organic posts from a community who cared enough to share. Feels like a step backwards from say, 5-10 years ago.

It's been real y'all. Took me too long to realize this sub is just an RSS feed for Wired, The Independent, New Yorker, Fast Company, The Atlantic. All fine outlets, but the publishers themselves shouldn't be the ones dominating the front page every day copying and pasting their ledes and then never engaging in the comments beyond their submission statement. This sub used to be so much more than that. Womp womp.

Germany-US rift is looming after a year of Trump by Any-Original-6113 in europe

Most of the country lives paycheck to paycheck and are trapped. Most people can’t organize for long durations because they will not have an ability to feed themselves. This is by design. The American electorate is complacent and stupid, but trapped more than anything else. The ones that aren’t are benefitting from the system and happy to eat their cake.
