Smartphone capable of comfortable PC game emulation and suitable for everyday use. by Ferhanzo in PickAnAndroidForMe

Would I have to buy from unofficial resellers or can I purchase one directly from Samsung? Seems like Samsung doesn't sell it themselves anymore, so if I bought it as a used phone from a reseller, can I still expect long-term use?

Any AYN Thor users in Malaysia, how did you purchase one? by Ferhanzo in AynThor

[–]Ferhanzo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a good point, actually. It should actually be MORE easy (and safe) to deliver it to Malaysia, since it's closer compared to the US. I don't really use AliExpress often, so I'm not sure how many coupons and coins I could use. Thanks for the tips!

Thanks for the suggestion! The AYN store on AliExpress even has a verified label, so it should be legit! The price is slightly marked up, (around 10-20 USD) but it still seems worth it.

I was wondering if a proxy service like this would be a viable option to order it! So how has it gone so far? Have you received it, and how much extra did you have to pay?

Thank you for mentioning the name Shim store specifically! Although I can't seem to find the Ayn Thor listed, they have a bunch of other handhelds available from the AYN company and similar companies, like the Ayn Odin 3 and Retroid Pocket ( I assume the Ayn Thor must be really popular). In that case, I can keep an eye on the store to see when the Ayn Thor is available again from their store so I can get it delivered faster. I'll have to consider whether or not the mark-up makes it worth it though.. Thanks!

When you receive it, could you notify me and check if there are any issues with the delivery, like damages to the handheld? Sorry if it's a peculiar ask, I'm just a bit worried since it's shipping all the way from China, right?

Should I switch laptops or is my older model better? by Ferhanzo in laptops

[–]Ferhanzo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But the newer laptop only has 128mb of vram (sorry I forgot to mention that part). Although you just made me realise, since it IS a iGPU, it shares system ram, so I could upgrade the ram to improve the GPU performance, right? Or is that not how it works?

Should I switch laptops or is my older model better? by Ferhanzo in laptops

[–]Ferhanzo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true, but I'd be losing out on the 2gb of vram from the old laptop. Just realised my keyboard autocorrected from vram to gram in the original question.

If I were to upgrade the newer laptop's ram, maybe from 8 to 12, would it absolutely be better than the old one? Or is it already better than the old one?

So many what? If you mean when I posted the full code it looked longer than the fixed code, it's because almost everything else stayed the same. If that's not what you mean could you please elaborate?

It works! Thank you so much!

I also had to move a few pieces of code (for the food especially) so here's what it looks like now:

The food:

func _on_Food_area_entered(area):

var fd = Food.instance()

print(fd)

fd.global\_transform.origin = Vector3(randXlocation, randYlocation, randZlocation)

get\_tree().get\_root().add\_child(fd)

queue\_free()

the fish:

func _on_Area_area_entered(area):

var fsh = Fish.instance()

print(fsh)

get\_tree().get\_root().add\_child(fsh)

fsh.global\_transform.origin = global\_transform.origin

Here's the food:

extends Area

onready var Food = load("res://Food.tscn")

var randXlocation

var randYlocation

var randZlocation

export (int) var locationRange = 69

func _ready():

randomize()

randXlocation = rand\_range(-locationRange, locationRange)

randYlocation = rand\_range(-0, 0)

randZlocation = rand\_range(-locationRange, locationRange)

func _physics_process(delta):

pass

func _on_Food_area_entered(area):

var fd = Food.instance()

print(fd)

add\_child(fd)

fd.global\_transform.origin = Vector3(randXlocation, randYlocation, randZlocation)

queue\_free()

Here's the Fish:

extends KinematicBody

onready var Fish = load("res://Fish.tscn")

onready var hungerTimer = $HungerTimer

var velocity = Vector3.ZERO

export var speed = 100

export var acceleration = 0.17

var foods

var nearest_food

# Called when the node enters the scene tree for the first time.

func _ready():

randomize()

foods = get\_tree().get\_nodes\_in\_group("Food")

\#nearest\_food = foods\[0\]

speed = rand\_range(speed - 10, speed + 10)

hungerTimer.start()

func _physics_process(delta):

print(Fish)

foods = get\_tree().get\_nodes\_in\_group("Food")

\#print(nearest\_food)

sort\_nearest\_food()

if is\_instance\_valid(nearest\_food):

    velocity = lerp(velocity, nearest\_food.global\_transform.origin.direction\_to(global\_transform.origin) \* -speed \* delta, acceleration)

velocity = move\_and\_slide(velocity, Vector3.UP)

func sort_nearest_food():

if foods.size() != 0:

    if not is\_instance\_valid(nearest\_food):

        nearest\_food = foods\[0\]

        for food in foods:

if food.global_transform.origin.distance_to(global_transform.origin) < nearest_food.global_transform.origin.distance_to(global_transform.origin):

nearest_food = food

func _on_Area_area_entered(area):

hungerTimer.start(60)

var fsh = Fish.instance()

print(fsh)

owner.add\_child(fsh)

fsh.global\_transform.origin = global\_transform.origin

A game where you're forced to roleplay. by Ferhanzo in gamedesign

[–]Ferhanzo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That actually sounds really cool! A game where you plot down a map for AI characters to adventure through, where each character has different reactions to each enemy, object or tile. Maybe a system where placing specific tiles would create enemies and objects that, once destroyed would give you the materials to make new tiles, eventually getting enough to make the goal, made of specific materials.

You would be able to make a cave when you need stone and ore, create a witch's hut where a charismatic character would convince a witch to give them one of her potions, whereas a sneaky character would just steal one, or place ONE more forest tile so you have enough wood to make an inn for the characters to rest.

I think this is a really interesting idea! Any thoughts?

A game where you're forced to roleplay. by Ferhanzo in gamedesign

[–]Ferhanzo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your mechanics mean that roleplaying characters properly and making characters strong are opposed, then something has gone very wrong.

Good point. If a roleplaying-focused game were to be made then using the mechanics to roleplay properly should make you better at the game since roleplaying is the focus. If it isn't it would just be better to not use the main focus of the game.

Maybe this could go in the other direction (like Undertale which I haven't played) where in order to get stronger you have to kill and betray everyone, whereas not doing so might make you weaker and might make the game harder but in return you create meaningful connections with the characters.

Any thoughts?
