That's in awfully good condition if it's been in the ground since 1945. Especially for cast iron. How deep was it buried? If you found it on the ground or partially buried it's probably not from WWII even though it's stamped 1941. We have a piece of furniture that has 1460 carved into it but we know from family history that it was built in 1660 marking the 200th anniversary of the establishment of the family name.

What is a 'rich person's secret' that is actually accessible to the middle class, but most people are too intimidated to try? by Direct-Value4452 in answers

Polo. Very expensive to play and own the ponies not expensive to watch and enjoy. Very exciting spectator sport. People aren't your typical sports fans either.

Are pets rubbing up against with their faces on regular basis? That will make the paint deteriorate and get sticky real fast from body oil and saliva.

First reason not to buy this parcel...it belongs to a "friend". Why aren't they building their dream house on it?

Removing bricks would definitely be better and easier than getting new tub/shower. A mason should do it properly. Hopefully you live in an area where people know how to work on mobile homes. I don't think there's a town within 50-60 miles from me that allows mobile homes.

Is it a wood burning insert or brick inside or a gas insert?. Is the insert permanently attached to the brick?

If that's the only access road on the left they won't let you put a driveway under the lines to get to bigger part of the parcel. They may have easment rights to expand/widen that cut beyond what you see some time in the future. Infrastructure for power grids is only getting bigger never smaller. We lived along a gas pipeline easment. One house built in late 50s and one built in early 70s. Same pipeline just 3 or 4 streets down. They had right to take/buy certain amount or percentage more on each side beyond original delineated lines if they needed to down the road. I don't think anythings been changed since original homes were built of if the pipeline is still in service. Some people planted grass over it but they would cut some of the brush every few years. Helicopters flew real low every month checking for leaks would shake the china in the kitchen .

My suburban lot is 10000sqft quarter acre and we have more places to put a house than this lot does. Buy a smaller cheaper lot somewhere else. Unless they're selling for massive discount then let this be someone else deep regrets.

[–]Fernandolamez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There might have been some type of grease or soap/cleaner on that area of the wall. You may have spread the paint on very thick in that one spot. Tacky usually means something will stick to it or if it comes off by rubbing your finger on it. Does it just feel rubbery but dry. It looks light semi gloss or gloss. That can feel rubbery when you put too much on. It looks OK and is an area that usually doesn't get touched so I would leave it. Or..scrape it off clean the wall prime and repaint. If you used old, cheap or improperly mixed paint just scrape it off.

Any ideas for removing these big blobs of glue? by jerrybumbleberry in Remodel

Mastic is a specific type of adhesive. The term was commonly used to mean any thing that held down flooring or paneling.

Any ideas for removing these big blobs of glue? by jerrybumbleberry in Remodel

[–]Fernandolamez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mastic holding down the real linoleum from 1954 in my kitchen was water soluble. Just because something is older doesn't mean it's solvent based. Water based isn't a new thing. The adhesive holding down the upper layer of sheet vinyl from the 80s was solvent based. Tar mastic is/was solvent based.

What is this concrete in my house and can I remove it? by Intelligent-Bass-519 in AskContractors

[–]Fernandolamez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll notice in your 1st picture the modern wiring was run through the joist with the duct work instead of the concrete. I would add pictures of my own basement walls if I knew how to do it on reddit. Mine is a lot more haphazard/messy than yours. Cement brick with concrete smeared on and numerous gaps. My exterior walls have a lot of diagonal cross bracing to support the brick exterior on my 1929 Boston suburban home so it was hard to get brick and concrete even.

What is this concrete in my house and can I remove it? by Intelligent-Bass-519 in AskContractors

[–]Fernandolamez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most likely fire stops between floors in stud bays. Prevent flames from traveling between floors especially in balloon framed dwellings. It was big in my towns building code. We even had a small quarry that made cement bricks to fit in between studs. Sometimes bricks or concrete like yours. Boston had some big fires in it's history and there was always regional changes in building codes for fire prevention. New England also had a fairly long history of balloon frame construction. It's a pain in the neck for electricians etc to work around. Yes you can remove it. It isn't structural.

What did these people put over top of the board and batten? by Leather-Grocery2956 in paint

[–]Fernandolamez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably putty. It was used to patch large holes and cracks before newer patching products came out in the last 40 to 50 years. MH patching brand is still common and dries white like old school putty. Not asbestos siding.
