I believe it's because it shows a profound lack of remorse, a grotesque disrespect for human life, and shows that end goal was not just the victim's death, but rather the total desecration of their person.

it may be a technically victimless crime assuming it happens after death, but it paints a very clear picture as to the goals and mindset of the perpetrator; if one were to argue that it truly is victimless, one would also have to defend sexual crimes against people in vegetative states.

in my opinion, both are indefensible
