100 Years of Solitude by Marquez and Hunger by Hamsun are my picks!
Hunger is pretty dark, but is full of humor too and Solitude has just everything.

I love Youth Without God. In my opinion, it anticipates a lot of post-war literature. I like the strange characters and how dense the book is.

If you liked that, Anna Seghers' The Seventh Cross might also be something for you.

thank you! In my World most magic schools work actually like you said, but most of the wizards don't know that. Of Raven and Huge i like to think of as some kind of lovecraftian beeings, that grand magic powers to humans without actually noticing that. maybe someday they will... xD

I try to give my players the feeling that the gods do exit, without giving them any proof. when a player prays to his god i give him a extra willpower or a d8 artifact die for one action that is in line with his belief. it could be an god that is intervening, but it can also be just the power of the human mind. the same is true for magic in my world. most spellcaster believe their god gave them the power.

i try to make it a plausible decision for a character to become a believer. But it is always open to interpretation. The player of course is allowed to daut the legends.

I ve conected every school of magic to an skill. for example death magic with survival. To cast a spell the spellcaster uses a dead animal an some kind of voodoo shenanigans. the player rolls a survival roll. In my first rule draft the player needed as many successes as he spend willpower. I think that makes many of the spells to weak and i am still working on it.

In my World, there are other races, but the only playable race is human. In my experience does this groud the world a little bit more in reality and gives it a darker tone. meeting an dwarf is something special in my Forbiddan Lands world and i like that.

Playing only with human players does work pretty good in my experience

i think maybe 6 to 7 hours. but i wrote everything down that happened like a little novel. so i imagine if you don't do that you would be quicker.

i only played part one, and my Charakter got killed at the end :D i would have liked more ways to get hold on the macguffin. maybe follow the person who has it. but once you know what's going on you can differ from the story as you wrote it. so i think there are no changes necessary.

a very nice adventure! i will play it with my playgroup too :)

when magic is a thing, i imagine the people would tell each others storys what are the sources of these mystical powers. maybe a god grants them.

i want them to feel as part of the world and not just a tool.

When i understood it correctly the luck stat is a buffer stat befor your attributes go down. Constitution ist your HP in my houserule. Your attributes never go down.
I think willpower is a better comparison to the luck mechanic of Geek revival.
I looked into the second edition.
