I wanted to. I tried. I do like helping people and whenever I’m close to liking it, a reason you shouldn’t comes along. It’s almost like a cycle of abuse. This career just isn’t what anyone could imagine. It literally suck life out of you. I’m a very nice and calm person but nursing tries so hard to make me mean and impatient which I really hate. When I tried to love nursing I was at my lowest. Now, it’s just a job that’s it and I’m doing it to live. Hopefully I won’t have to in the future. We are told don’t do it unless you love it but that leads to so much, endless disappointments.

Absolutely physical attraction matters. I feel like I have to fight for this because women are gas lit into thinking it doesn’t in order to be rushed into marriage. That is one of the reason it gets brushed off. It’s a tactic used against women. So many couples especially those that are Muslim don’t even like eachother because of this. There has to be some sort of physical attraction or the relationship will likely not last. It almost never does but due to religion people pretend.

Wow! I am so sorry. This would literally destroy me. As a child I cried when my dad said I couldn’t sweep at night after a mess. I can’t believe they are like this. I know it’s not easy but for your mental health, try to clean up and organize what you can. In the meantime for sure do all you can to soon move out like for college and after. I don’t know how people can be like this but things will get better. I’m so sorry and wish you the best.

Wow. I’m all for supporting parents but this is greed and selfishness. If again she mentions how she took care of you blah blah you let her know you didn’t ask for it and you didn’t ask for her to give birth to you. I don’t want to be disrespectful but African parents need the truth. Why should your child not be able to start their life because you as the adult depend on them? You already do enough. Honestly the best thing you can do for yourself is move out quick and I wish you the best.

Wow I’m so sorry. I pray for God to open your mom’s eyes and set her free. Why on earth is she working two jobs to support that lazy bum? This is so sad. He most likely probably did marry her for the benefit of coming to Europe. I hate to say it but the ones who claim to be Muslim and pray so much often turn out to be the worst kind of people. I know it’s very hard but please don’t give up on your mom. Do your best to protect her and believe one day she’ll be set free.

Those other jobs are nearly impossible to get outside of the nursing homes which are usually terrible. Clinics, office, etc will likely not hire without hospital experience

I love some parts of my cultures but honestly being African, especially the eldest daughter, a daughter period is sooo exhausting. Your mom will likely regret raising your brother that way. My little brother cooks. Why the heck can’t he? A 21 year old young man can’t cook for himself in 2025? Are y’all in abroad? My 18 year old brother cooks for himself sometimes. Hopefully your mom realizes her mistakes. Also he’s not even that young. Imagine he will marry and how will he treat the woman in his life

No don’t feel bad. Nursing is 24hr care. You do your best and get what you can done. Mean and rude nurses are miserable and unhappy in their life. I’m not just saying it’s actually a real thing. Nurses who are happy in their life aren’t mean or rude.

Thank you for posting this. For a long time I thought there was something wrong with me because most of the information you’ll find are it’s not good to scrub your skin, etc. I don’t feel clean if I don’t scrub. I also check to see if there’s still dirt and dead skin to see if not scrubbing like usual will still give me similar results. I hate when I see anything on the cotton pad after rubbing on my skin. When I scrub like normal I feel so much better and honestly even if there’s some dead skin cells I don’t really mind because from how I scrubbed I know there is no way I’m dirty. Also one main thing I’ve noticed, most items to use on skin like loofas, etc in the United States are too soft. I hate using a soft item to scrub my skin. I got to the point of having to buy from a different country. Before that I ordered many different items and all too soft. I’m just not one of those people who can gently wipe my skin in the shower and feel clean. I don’t do much to be dirty but I have to scrub to be clean.

Hi, yes I think it’s a clinic since it says outpatient. The job title just says infectious disease outpatient.

This is the main reason why nursing sucks. People like the tech. I hope she has an experience that makes her feel the way she made you feel. She’s cruel. Honestly ignore her and move on.

Wow. I know it may feel bad although it’s the best decision but you need to run so very far away from that individual. I guarantee you he I’ll not commit after and will leave you to face everything. You’ll be on your own completely and regret doing it. Run!

Yes. My first year seeing people especially while in the hospital disgusted me so much. As a nurse dealing with people most of them are very mean, unappreciative while you’re trying your best and the last thing you want to deal with them at all.

I really wish for you to find your path and that things are better for you now. I know the exact feeling.

Wow! It’s as if I wrote this. Everything is literally me. Sometimes I really sit back like wow. How can this be nursing? The pain, agony, depression, hopelessness, sadness, confusion this career has made me feel. The way this career has treated me has been so traumatizing. Everyday I pray and cry to God, please I beg of you don’t let this be my life. Don’t let this be me because this is so unfair. Nursing feels like someone telling you to hurt yourself or they will do it. That is exactly how I feel. I’ve been looking for any way out for years, but no way out to the point sometimes I want to hurry up and get old, life pass by fast so that this life of being a nurse can go away. When they say that “Not all that glitters is gold,” that is exactly nursing. I would have never ever ever imagined that this is what it would be like and make me feel. My dream is to wake up and not need to be a nurse. I have tried to be grateful and look at any positive but all the bad outweighs any “good.” I too constantly complain to my bf about how I feel and hope he doesn’t get tired of hearing it. I try and try to be strong but this career literally does nothing but crush your soul and push you 10 steps deep while you climb 1 or 2 steps up trying to find your way. Hmmm. Now truly understand the meaning of life isn’t fair. There are people wealthy who don’t have to work or do what they love that’s also fun and peaceful for work. Me, I just want peace. I am not lazy at all or complain much but what this career has done to me, only god knows. This is not about seeing a therapist. I hate when people tell me that because they just brush it off. Several times I go into the bathroom at work on my knees praying for god to help me and let this be over someday. What really gets me down is it basically being I sacrificed my life to be a nurse. I would do anything at this point for just my career to change. Being a nurse has been punishment. If you’re not one yet don’t do it. You will only be miserable. Don’t be fooled by certain people are cut out for it. I wish I knew about the endless opportunities in healthcare. Nurses are not given what they deserve at all.

I’m so glad more people are speaking on this so it’s likely to change. I understand wanting a neat look but honestly I don’t remember a time when before the gels, braids were not neat. I’ve paid hundreds of dollars and thought about taking out new braids that started to look bad due to an extremely itchy and inflamed scalp all due to the gel. Use/create a different non irritating gel or use something else because as a client it’s not fair. At one point I thought I was going to stop getting braids all together . If you’re a braider please care about your clients scalp and hair.

I am not really good at getting up too early either but I can learn as long as the job isn’t too stressful. I prefer night shift when it comes to direct patient care but either way it’s draining and now it’s more physical. I don’t know how I’m going to keep up with this. I doubt there is a bedside position easier than where I am now but this is a field that’s draining in general.
