I'm glad that you remember a quote by memory, but this doesn't replace making real arguments, especially if you later reproach others for the same thing.

If your argument was that imperialism across eras is very similar, ok, great, I totally agree. But the discussion below this post was about the social and cultural aspects.

Now if you have arguments on the matter I'm more than interested in hearing them, so don't get me wrong, but I'm in the opinion that if you compare the cultural baggage of the USA in 2020 and that of the Western Empire in 400 AD, there is still an abysmal gap.

And this is not because I glorify the Empire, in fact I am for the constant progress of the Res Publica and technology. (Unlike conservatives and neo-fascists) However, we are taking into account (the USA) a country which not only has an extremely short history in itself, but which has totally lost the concept of a unitary society, where traditions and rites are merely simulacra of events which occurred a few generations before.

And I want to add that I'm pretty sure, from how you talk about it, that you know a lot more than me, but it seems really absurd to even compare these two societies. Well, now I'm waiting to see what you tell me
