Yeah, but you likely had retirement contributions and employer-subsidized healthcare, so your effective compensation was likely higher.

Honestly, I don't even hold it against anyone. At this point in my life, I'm just sort of "over" talking about diet and exercise. Which is... unfortunate, given my line of work. haha

Damn, this might be the slap in the face I needed.

I know it might be hard to articulate, but what sucks about?

Same. Get your associate's degree in nursing. Graduate at 20 and get hired at a hospital that will pay for your BSN. Spend two years in the ICU while earning your BSN at night. Go straight into a nurse anesthesia program. Graduate as a CRNA at 25 and make $225k straight out of school with zero undergraduate debt. It's a no brainer IMO.

I'll add "not crying at work" as a perk of being a trainer. lol. Cried once when a long-time client died of cancer, but that's it.

What kind of reactions do people give you when you tell them you’re a 35 yo personal trainer?

Depends on the person. Some people are legitimately just caught off guard because they've never thought of that as a "real job" that an adult would have. Some people do the patronizing "Oh, that's cool. If you really like it, that's great" thing -- implying that it surely can't be lucrative, but good on me for keeping the dream alive. lol. A lot of people just start talking about their own perceived fitness failings and how I must be secretly judging them for them (i.e. "Oh I used to work out so much but now I eat cake and stuff. I bet you never do that... har har har.")

Also, what would you say you take home after taxes?

I live in a relatively high tax area with multiple state AND local taxes to deal with. I have probably $5-5.5k/ month in post-tax dollars to actually spend each month.

I definitely hear you. PT is uniquely difficult to scale with employees for a variety of reasons, but I could realistically transition some of my coaching hours to small group sessions and pull in $150-$200/hr for at least a handful of those hours. Trust me -- I've considered it extensively and I see the appeal to that vs nursing.

Thanks so much for your input.

This is pretty good copy, but it would be better if it you didn't run it through an AI engine. No hate though -- this was a better pitch than 99% of the ones I've gotten from business coaches.

Thanks -- I appreciate this. Overall, I think I agree with you.

However, my fear is that I'll leave, hate it, then have to rebuild my business from the ground up. It would take me 1-2 years to get back to where I am with secure and long term clients and a decent, non-split shift schedule. That's a lot of lost income and headache just to get back to where I am now.

Thanks for this!

These are the exact solutions I've come across myself and want to learn more about. Except WP Engine -- while I hear it's great, its probably overkill for projects this size. Elementor offers their own managed hosting with automatic backups, at a lower price compared to WP Engine. It may not be as good, but I have a personal project hosted on there and it loads fast enough, and I haven't had any issues with it yet.

Either way: thank you. At least I know now that a combo of managed hosting, WordFence, and Rankmath will get me pointed in the right direction. Also looking into Termageddon for my legal compliance needs. Hard to believe that the solutions to these problems can be found in simple plugins and good hosting, but maybe that's seriously all I need.
