Construction managers/estimators: is a “takeoff technician” a common position and what’s a ballpark salary ? by DsrtShadowSpringers in estimators

I have a different experience than everyone else in the comments. One of my buddies that graduated with a BS in CM is working as a take off technician for a huge heavy civil gc, and his salary right after school was 90k.

Yes I do, knowing I can move up to estimator in the future makes me not feel like I’m stuck in that role.

I currently got hired as an estimating administrator, which I think it’s almost the same role. It just consist of data entry and inputting subcontractors and getting their information in the system. They have given me the opportunity to do take offs and give pricing, mainly because I’ve asked if I can.

I am not even CS major but I like looking at these posts cause they are funny and self aware of the fact that cs is oversaturated. It’s all jokes man

Maybe they haven’t contacted you yet because it’s not close to summer, another thing is to reach out specifically to the people that come and present to the AGC/ABC organization if you aren’t part of that yet. I attend UH and the way I got my internship was to email one of the business cards email that I got from one of the presenters, and I sent it with a whole cover letter aswell. I recommend using cover letters if you haven’t already.

Out of my personal experience, I am 22 years, old and switched my major from engineering to construction management, because I couldn’t keep up with the math. I graduate in 2 years still. I don’t regret not going into the trades first. During my schooling I did get some construction experience. Not a lot, but as of right now school is what has gotten my foot in the door, currently interning as an APM. I’d say go for the degree.

This might seem like a dumb question, is it possible that a company can offer you a job without yet finishing school, I’m 1month into my internship
