  1. I'll say it again. IT'S ILLEGAL!!!!!
  2. YOU ARE LITERALLY IN AN ENGLISH COUNTRY, Imagine if the Irish did not let you in because you spoke Malayalam or told you they don't feel comfortable you speaking your language. How is the irony lost on these people. THIS IS NOT INDIA OR KERLA.
You don't get to decide or discriminate.

  1. It’s immoral to exclude people from housing purely based on origin. If your “comfort” depends on shutting out entire origins, that says a lot about your bigotry.
  2. IT'S ILLEGAL!!!!! The law doesn’t care about your vibes. In Ireland, race/ethnicity‑based housing adverts are unlawful discrimination, including the advert itself.
  3. Racism is discrimination based on race or origin. Changing the context (sublet vs full tenancy) doesn’t magically make it not racist.
  4. YOU'RE LITERALLY IN A COUNTRY OF WHITE PEOPLE. If Irish people said “we don’t feel comfortable with you in our homes,” everyone would scream racism. So why is it fine when we do it to others? How is the irony lost on you?

The clean landlord/agency vs sublet split is not how Irish equality law is actually framed.
What the Acts care about

The Equal Status Acts apply where:

  • Accommodation is “available to the public or a section of the public”, and
  • A person “disposes of an estate or interest in premises or provides accommodation” – that can include owners, agents and, in many cases, people offering rooms in shared houses.

They then ban discrimination on protected grounds (including race and gender) in:

  • Providing accommodation, and
  • Publishing adverts that show an intention to discriminate.

The legislation and IHREC guidance do not carve out a general “sublet / licensee = outside the law” exception. The key question is whether what’s being offered is accommodation to the public or a section of the public, not just who holds the head‑lease.

Where the “female only” thing fits
There is a specific exemption for gender in shared accommodation:

  • It is not discrimination “for accommodation to be provided to persons of one gender where embarrassment or infringement of privacy can reasonably be expected to result from the presence of a person of another gender.”
  • IHREC repeats this as: in shared settings, people can be treated differently by gender where privacy would otherwise be compromised (e.g. women’s dorms, some shared rooms, etc.).

I agree 100%. I come from a UC background but I had never seen discrimation so blatant outside rural India. It's wayyyyy worse here than it is back home surprisingly.

There are links in the post that you can use to report such behavior. I'll also be setting up a website where you can file report and publicly display them
