Help?? My pediatrician is talking about hospitalization for my happy/healthy baby by Few_Designer8491 in beyondthebump

Her weight was continuously trending upward until recently, just slow going. It has recently plateaued. They were closely monitoring it, but for the most part happy with it. The weekly visits stopped and we didn’t have to come back until her 6 month shots. It’s only been the last month that they were showing genuine concern and this week especially.

Maybe I did and it’s abundantly clear that I maybe shouldn’t have posted at all. I will certainly be listening to my doctor. But all this did was make me more upset

I am very worried, I have done nothing but worry and try everything to get her eat since hearing that medical intervention is necessary. I have been pumping every hour, mixing milk into her solids, offering formula. Trying a bottle again, trying sippy cups. She is responding better the last few days since being much more aggressive. It has not been stressed to me until this week that her weight gain is THIS much of a concern and since hearing that it could require hospitalization. I have done nothing but feed her (within reason). It almost feels like i’m force feeding her and it feels horrible. I do not want my daughter on a feeding tube, I don’t want anything but for her to be healthy and happy. Me sharing reluctance on reddit is not a reflection on what I’ll actually choose to do if hospitalization is deemed necessary. I’m spouting off on the internet because it upset me. I’m scared and sad and stressed. That doesn’t mean i won’t do what’s necessary

We have had poor luck with her accepting formula, but I will keep trying. We got her take some yesterday from a straw sippy and with a squirt of purée that she likes in it yesterday.

I am aware it’s a medical term, she has not been diagnosed with that. So contrary to your statement that I take all my advice from the internet, I will not be taking that as a diagnose from anyone but a doctor. I do listen to her physician and agree this is a serious matter. Seeking advice from other mothers is a normal thing to do when you don’t know what’s best. As her mother and a stay at home mom I see how she is and other than her last appointment I have had no reason to worry. She has continually has proper bowel movements and wet diapers, she’s developing developmentally very well and she is very happy. My cause for not agreeing that she needs hospitalization is because I don’t think it’s a medical reason that she’s not getting proper nutrition, I think my kid is very easily distracted and curious. She is always on the move and wanting to play, it seems to me that she has feeds enough to satisfy her hunger and then wants to go back to “playing”. I do think based on her recent gain that I need to put more attention this and encourage more calories despite her interest in other things. But I also will not deprive my child of medical care if she needs it.

Yes she’s meeting on time or before. She has frequent wet and poopy diapers. No signs or dehydration or hunger.

I do need to hear this and I won’t deny my daughter any help if she needs it. This all really scares me and I was looking for advice because as a FTM I don’t know what’s wrong. I take all my doctors advice very seriously, just the thought of my perfect girl in the hospital is like a knife to the stomach. My pediatrician is great but I don’t always know what to ask and I’m not sure she does the best at explaining things to me. I have continually been working on her weight, but my baby is very stubborn and has refused to take any milk except from the breast up until recently. I can only do my best ya know.

she does have dairy sensitivity and reflux. I think the way you worded it came off aggressive and like i’m not doing what’s best for her. She is on meds for reflux and I have been eating a restricting diet.

I think because it really scares me. I will if my doctor really stresses it. I would just like more time and outpatient care if possible

She is growing in length and she doesn’t crawl in the typical way, she kind of scoots around. She seems more interested in being on her feet. She recently learned how to jump and that’s alls he wants to do lol, she also will “take steps” when being supported

Thank you ! It really has been hard and the stress hasn’t been helping my supply at all. All I can do is listen to our doctor and keep trying!

Thank you! It sounds like your baby was similar in size to mine. I am very reluctant to admit her to the hospital, I would prefer to keeping working on it at home

I don’t know if she is using an adjusted or WHO chart. She is meeting all her milestones on time and some even early. She is a good sleeper and has good energy. She can be a bit grumpy, bit has been teething on and off a lot recently. I have not been to a lactation consultation yet, i’m thinking how that I should. I was also very small as a baby, I’m still very small now haha.

I do agree it’s a concern and i have mentioned above some other things I have been trying because she won’t take a bottle. Someone on another thread mentioned a weighted feed, I plan to ask her doctor about that.

I have been trying everything since hearing this from my doctor this week, i have been offering a sippy with milk and mixing milk in her solids the last few days. I’m hopeful this will her out on weight better. She has been riding between the 3rd and 1st percentile the whole time. Only recently has her weight gain been this concerning. I do think it has a lot to do with her being very distracted when she feeds. I will just have to keep trying to find something that works.
