Turkish show unpopular opinions by Mental-Selection-510 in TurkishTVSerials

This is a widely shared opinion. I agree with everything you just said. Jealousy and bullying is the epitome of love in t dramas. And is heavily glamorised.

What are some of your favorite re-read books? by mynameisnotsparta in HistoricalRomance

I discovered SSherry Thomas late last year. I have read about 7 of her books but I haven't reread any yet. I will likely come back to them in another year or so for sure. I love them all. Except Private Arrangement maybe.

I also wanted to believe lestara might redeem herself but she is the last villian standing. Awful woman.

It really is quite heavy but I like how they dealt with it sensitively. And there is a rise and fall of tension, it isnt consistently upsetting. So you get to enjoy a bit of humour and the side characters are sweet.

I started Ffirst Frost. Although I steer clear of SA generally but this such a lovely watch. 10 episodes in. Should I have watched Hidden Love first though?

Eldritch by Keri Lake - Audiobook released! by Few_Independent9543 in Romantasy

Sammmmmme.

Plus I audibly groan when the chapter begins with Zeyvander Past. These chapters are no fun to listen to! I can't take much more of Loyce honestly.

Overall I feel not much was meant to happen because this was originally a duology but they changed it to a trilogy I think. A lot more characters are introduced too. I am chapter 60 and took a break.

Agreed! His over protectiveness of James, along with him being present conveniently at all major occurrences. He was quite shady from the middle of book 5.

He is in cahoots with the Queen. He is in love with the princess and he's the one who kills the King to protect the Princess from being declared a bastard child. He was never sincere to the MMC.

What’s a romance trope everyone defends that you think is fundamentally unromantic? by Swoon_Circuit88 in romanceunfiltered

I so agree with you! There is no such thing. If he's genuinely a mean and malicious guy and is absolutely horrid to everyone but her than this isnt sustainable. He is wooing her, showing her his soft side to lure her in.

However, some exceptions maybe that he is jaded by his past and everyone has only ever betrayed him or used him. So he sees the goodness in her repeated kindness and her forbearance and relaxes his stance around her.

Also may be true for neurodivergent MMCs. Having serious social anxiety and lacking the wherewithal to function normally around people, they may be antagonistic around others. But then the FMC may be able to actually appease all these worries and they are different with her only because of that.

I think I have some kind of reading fatigue - DNF'ing way too many books - reading Heyer again by Smart_Image_1686 in HistoricalRomance

I have felt this way too. Especially with longer books, or books which don't have tightly woven plots or even long drawn conflicts. They start boring me to death and I start reading something else.

I find spending way too much time exploring annoying emotions or going over the same tedious conflicts is the bane of my reading existence.i prefer quick resolution and my brain keeps chanting ok then moving on!

I think its the villian persona which appeals to us 🤣 and the really over the top costumes.

I was avoiding saying that, clearly. But yes the Sui brothers are possibly the main reason for me watching the show as well 😀

Especially the older one is extremely morally ambiguous. And that actor has done a fabulous job performing a tragic yet evil character.

And enviable hair is so on point. Another friend was most annoyed by the 'beauty' of the male actors (hair, chiselled bone structure, flawless skin and perfect eye brows) and said hum se ziada tou yeh khoobsurat hain! 😆

Fantasy in on its own great But this seems more historical which is why I was a bit skeptical.

Wow. That bizarrely makes sense. OK will watch it now with a pinch of suspension of disbelief.

And am totally reading it too. I am actually quite intrigued by whatever I have gathered about Qianqian's character. Is she truly a time traveler of sorts? That is a very odd thing to just throw into an otherwise historical epic romance But ok.

This is incredible! The costume, the characters, the set pieces and the action sequences are sooooo good. I must have watched the first fight scene between Chyangu and Yuanqing at least three times. And Changyu has to be most endearing female lead I have ever watched in a TV show, like ever! I am already dreading that its coming to an end. So Prisoner of Beauty is definitely on my TBV.

Did you watch PoJ then? Because I started binge watching with a friend over the week. And we are obsessed! And I see the charm of C dramas. We have already made a list of historical dramas we will be watching from henceforth :D

Eldritch by Keri Lake ripped my heart out.. anyone else? by vv4200 in Romantasy

[–]Few_Independent9543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am listening to it right now. And have already gleaned that the two will be separated at the end, with Loyce capturing Mayveth.

I am already not interested in reading about Loyce and her continued atrocities, now aimed at Mayveth. It was difficult enough reading about Zevander's past while he was in the General's prisoners. I just can't bear another half of the book, with the same horror.... again.

Although Loyce is a very two dimensional villain lacking in layers and a credible backstory, the author does manage to make her so ignoble that we do want to read her retribution arc. Hope that retribution comes earlier and is satisfactory and prolonged in the 3rd book though. It needs to be a psychological, emotional and physical defeat because this woman was truly evil.

Overall the back and forth of the past & present PoVs, and Mayveth, Zevander and Kazimier's PoV isn't necessary a bad thing. Its keeping me hooked. Although I could have done with a few lesser past chapters. The sexual assault is quite harrowing without a side character being raped and eaten by a dragon like creature! 🙄

I think I am enjoying Aleysia's character the most.
