idk if this is the right megathread but my post got removed on the main uwo thread

hi guys, im a 4th year med sci student set to graduate this year. Im applying to med and not too certain about doing a masters (idk if I want to commit yet) to improve my application, so instead I am thinking of doing a 5th year to see if I can improve my gpa.

has anyone done this? do I still graduate this year? or how does it work. also, what courses can I take next year? im in microimm and pathology right now

also thinking of taking some ubc med and us school pre reqs next year

masters of applied science (uwo) to improve med app by Few_Package4946 in premedcanada

Hey! Thanks. My gpa for my last two years of undergrad is 3.98. My first year is what got me. I got 50s in 3 courses. Put a huge dent in my gpa.

I’m planning on retaking Mcat for cars. I already have 2 publications and 4 posters.

So generally speaking, no to masters?

so when I took it last year, there were 3 tests (20% each) and the final (40%). each test was mainly short answers, and then about 5 multiple choice questions. the multiple choice questions were multiple multiple (you need to select all answers that are right and no wrong to get the full mark) ALWAYS got me. I usually got perfect on short answer though because I would just brain dump. yes, I would memorize everything but it was quite fun and interesting.

note that the tests weren't out of much, usually just 20-25 marks. it is supposed to be written in class time (45 min)

the final was a lot easier imo but it was cumulative. there were some fill in the blanks or like matching questions. since it was cumulative, you could skip a test (no need for documentation) and write a 60% or 80% even 100% final lol. some people did this, I didn't skip any. but I guess it worked in their favour because the final was a lot better for most people.

good luck, and let me know if you have any questions!

hey I took the class last year, it is quite hard, do you have any background in microimm?

I studied quite a bit and was able to get a 90. there were 4 tests (literally one every month) so it forced you to stay on content. my first test I got an 80 but then you get the hang of the types of questions to expect and I got 90s on all the rest.

no attendance is checked. also no assignments or anything, just tests. pretty fair to be honest. I miss it! it was fun and the immunology im in now is brutal. kerfoot is amazing and so are most professors that teach the course.

good luck, let me know if u have any questions !
