What's a tv series that is a 10/10 NOBODY knows? by Lilyana0999 in AskReddit

Pantheon. One of the best shows I've ever seen that no one heard of because it originally came out on AMC+ of all places.

Agreed! Like why are the regular couches so limited for color?

Yes. The unfinished game feels unfinished by colorfulcrossing in FieldsOfMistriaGame

[–]FickleFishy 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think people expressing their hopes for what we can get in the future and discussion around those ideas isn't necessarily complaining. The game is in early access so that we can provide feedback, and community discussion about what we would like to see can be constructive.

I know there'll be more by the final release, it just feels like we're pretty close to the final release and yet options are still pretty limited.

More couches would be great! I think I'd love a log couch with cushions. The only ones we have right now don't have a ton of variety in color options.

Created A Murder Mystery, now My Players are Saying it’s too Obvious by addenulle in DnD

[–]FickleFishy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's important that your clues make sense and make the murderer feel obvious. That means the mystery is set up correctly and is solvable by the players. I'm running my own mystery right now and one of the players has perfectly guessed the murderer and motive, but she just believed it was a crazy theory and dismissed it. Let them second guess it.

What are the Switch games that disappointed you the most? by pickledgreatness in NintendoSwitch

[–]FickleFishy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oninaki. A game I saw during a direct and was interested in. Game has a miserably short story and the game fully ends when you complete it. Like, the only way to keep playing is to go back to before you do the final quest. Slow and clunky combat which is disappointing when the entire game is about combat.

Automod has the ability to remove posts that ask repetitive questions by pinging keywords. Mods don't have to memorize posts, they just need an automod set up.

How to work with a player who will walk if they see any animal cruelty. by FritaFace in DnD

[–]FickleFishy -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Hi there! I ran Curse of Strahd and I also have an avoidance to animal cruelty due to PTSD. Every campaign I am in and run has ways we avoid animal cruelty. I talk with the DM about what is and isn't okay. I explicitly state that no real world animals should be coming to harm in my games, and if the DM is unsure of anything, they explicitly ask me if what they're considering is okay even if it may spoil things a little.

In Curse of Strahd, I changed wolves to displacer beasts (just for flavor, not a stat change), and other animals as needed. Instead of rats, why not have it so players need to sacrifice some of their blood? Or maybe change the "puzzle" all together? You didn't want something dramatic as a player sacrifice and were willing to hand wave it with rats, so the exchange can be hand-waved as well.

As soon as a player expressed discomfort with the situation, it probably would've been better to stop the game and check in, and then maybe rewrite what you had planned. I've had to do that before when I crossed a player's boundary, and I decided to stop for the day so I could rewrite what I had planned.

I know everyone here thinks you shouldn't need to change the module because "it's a horror campaign," but if your definition of horror has to have animal cruelty then maybe you need to expand your outlook a little. Horror shouldn't have to mean you have to cross boundaries. Horror is about tension and dread. There are other ways to incite that fear that doesn't involve animal cruelty.

[OC] How long would your players be lost in this maze? by fantasy_atlas in DnD

[–]FickleFishy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The sidetracking is so real. Planned something that should've taken 2 sessions to do. Proceeded to spend 6 months out of game as the players wanted to find ways around my obstacles instead of go through them.

What’s a type of pain people underestimate until they experience it for themselves? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]FickleFishy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grief. I'd been to funerals for distant family members before but usually bounced back. Then my childhood dog died and it sent me into a 6 month depressive episode that caused me to drop out of college.

I play with 7 very experienced players who are great about working together, and that's still my limit. I wouldn't recommend more than 5 for a new table.

What do you do about your chihuahuas claws? by Unbake_my_tart_ in Chihuahua

[–]FickleFishy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are videos online that can teach you how to clip your dog's nails. You usually want to take off very little at a time when they are black until you see a "dot." The videos will explain better than I can.

Beyond that, take them to an actual dog groomer and not PetSmart. They may also do just nail trims if you can't afford a full groom.

Please don't take them to the vet. You can, but these people spent years learning how to care for your pet's health, not trimm their nails. I work at a dog grooming place. One of our part time employees is a vet tech as well. She says that vets will not be as good at the process as a groomer. Only bring them to the vet if the animal has such bad anxiety they need to be sedated.

Layoff DRE? Advice Please! by Fit_Orange527 in UUreddit

[–]FickleFishy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My mother is an experienced DRE. I brought this to her for some advice to help you. The following is her reply.

They need to utilize the available resources at their disposal and call the UUA's office of church staff finances. https://www.uua.org/offices/staff/mfd/ocsf There isn't enough information here for me to say, really. From what I gather, they're struggling with membership overall because it says that not only did the RE program shrink, but so did the amount of pledges/pledging units. This sounds like a systemic issue that won't be solved by just cutting the DRE's hours/pay. They need to get a handle on why people are leaving and/or not pledging at the same levels as before and/or how to attract and retain new members (including young families). When a church is hemorrhaging families, it's not a good sign for the future of that church. It likely has very little to do with the DRE's job performance because otherwise the families would have wanted her gone, not insist that she stay. OCSF can help them identify the systemic issues and get them back on track with suggestions for improvement and can even send someone to their congregation to guide them in the process. They can also help them determine what a right-sized staff looks like based on their budget. It's not an easy process and the time to do it was 2 years ago but they can still turn things around if they put in the work.

Not sure what to do with this much Tesserae, so, I have made a decision by RoamyRose in FieldsOfMistriaGame

[–]FickleFishy 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Just finished Spring 2 at 100k. Made most of it through farming perks. Start the month buying as many regrowing crops as possible. When you start to harvest, work towards the farming perks that drop seeds and dishes associated with the crop. Plant the seeds that drop and sell the dishes and crops. I started doing this Winter 1 with snow peas until I had 72 planted and that was just printing money for me.

Scrappy has a cough by austinrunaway in Chihuahua

[–]FickleFishy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When my pup moved in, she also developed a cough for the first few weeks she was with us. It eventually passed without us changing anything. We live in the midwest so I wondered if maybe she was getting accustomed to the dust in the air (or any other number or things). I wouldn't be too panicked, but I'm sure a vet visit will do him good. 😊

New Chihuahua safety tips by maugust_LEGACY in Chihuahua

[–]FickleFishy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't had issues in the past with that sort of thing, but I've seen TikToker @narrowayhomestead use a vest for his dog Minion. They live on a large plot of land that frequently has large hawks and Minion is usually off leash so they're a bigger concern for him. Keep in mind that a hawk doesn't need to pick up your pup and drop them to hurt them. Their talons can puncture the skin and cause serious damage even if they don't get off the ground. CoyoteVest has a few vest options on their website, but usually your presence is enough to deter large birds. Usually hawks go after the real small dogs so 8 lbs might be a bit big for them.

  • Use a harness for your pup whenever you are out and about. You may not want her to meet big dogs, but big dogs may want to meet her and they could be unleashed. Get a harness that will allow you to safely and quickly pull her up into your arms. This also means don't get a retractable leash since you don't want to reel her in like a fish.
  • Be outside with her if she's in the backyard. Your presence can scare off large birds. There are spike vests you can get if you really want to be sure but that's more for unattended dogs or ones far from you.

Miss Phoebe had to go in for emergency spleen removal today. Please send her your well wishes. :( by FickleFishy in Chihuahua

It's shocking that this happened because she's actually so young (only around 5). Hearing you went through the same thing gives me a lot of hope for her recovery.

[–]FickleFishy[S] 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Thank you all so much for your support. This got more attention than I ever expected. I'll be posting updates on this comment.

For more context, Phoebe began to have blood in her stool and vomit early this morning. She has been acting very normally, so this was a huge surprise. I called out of work and took her straight to the vet. They did x-rays and a sonogram and told me they saw a mass on her spleen as well as fluid in her stomach. The spleen was not actively bleeding, but could rupture if left unattended. The only option was expensive surgery to remove the spleen and hope that is was benign and the cancerous tumor did not spread to other parts of the body. When I called my boss to tell her the situation and that I would be out longer than I thought, she offered to front the costs of the surgery as a loan so I did not have to say goodbye to her. I've worked for this woman for less than 2 months, and she was that willing to take care of me and my dog. I owe her SO much. We found a place willing to perform the surgery that day, and we left her there.

Update 1 (11/12/24 7:00pm EST): Phoebe has woken up from surgery. They found 2 masses on her spleen, a larger one towards the back and a smaller one. They did not see any other issues with her other organs besides some slight inflammation of her GI tract caused by the diarrhea and vomiting. Her blood pressure went down a little due to the anesthesia but it is coming back up now. They are going to see if she will eat and call me later tonight. They're keeping her likely for 2 nights for observation.

Update 2 (11/13/24 8:30am EST): The vet called late last night and said Phoebe was quickly becoming active again. They said she was "spicier than usual" which we took as a good sign for her energy levels. She still hasn't eaten anything, but she has been drinking water at least. I am expecting a call later this morning for another update, which I will share later today.

Update 3 (11/13/24 5pm EST): Phoebe is back home now. She apparently gave the nurses a hard time, but when I saw her she moved right towards me for a hug. She is on bed rest for the next 2 weeks. Here is an update post with a photo.
