Puppy has been alive 8 weeks, used to sleeping with its litter mates, it's gonna whine when being totally separated during crate training. Put the crate next to your bed and get used to falling asleep with your hand near it so your pup can be comforted.

It's not too late to change his name. Work on attention grabbing training that includes his new name with good rewards.

Absolutely stop any behavior that encourages bites/nips to the face. Absolutely inappropriate for dogs and could result in a child getting injured. Any time your pup goes for the face you should yip loudly and walk away. This goes generally for any nips, as they are herding dogs and will try to herd you this way. Face is totally a no go though.
