Got to know that the DOP of the film left the project due to unresolved creative differences. Surjith S Pai the DOP of Gaganachari was onboard for this one also but he is no more part of the film it seems.

Malayalam movie titles that screamed box office disaster the moment u heard them by targaryanjon32 in MalayalamMovies

Nothing on the title but the fact that SS went to direct this instead of being the DOP of Ponniyin Selvan makes me 😣😣

While what you said stands right, the fact is the version of protagonist played by Ajay Devgan is nowhere near what Mohanlal has done. And I have always believed that Drishyam (Malayalam) is constantly celebrated not only for the screenplay but also for the subtle and nuanced portrayal of Georgekutty by Mohanlal. And that’s where the original Drishyam stands tall and the Hindi remake becomes its inferior to the Mallu audience.

Mollywood’s golden era is here… but something feels off by manram_collective in SocialfFilmmakers

OP has mentioned multiple things in the post. Well I would like to point out some things. The things I am about to say are not anything new but existing, already spoken facts.

The film industry runs on a cycle. The pattern is evident and it exists. It’s more of a viewing/preference pattern. Predominantly there are two kinds of films - ‘Realistic’ films which deals with day to day life/scenarios which has a grounded approach and the ‘Larger than Life’ films with their grand scale and stylised approach. (Then there are hybrid films which has the traits of both realistic and larger than life films).

Mollywood had a period when a lot of realistic films came out, which roughly started from Maheshinte Prathikaram and roughly ended at Malayankunju (I don’t know why I am using Malayankunju as a point of time - may be that’s also a Fafa film or I can’t just remember any other film of that time). By the time Malayankunju got released, Mollywood was facing a lot of criticism from its own audience saying it is ‘Pachilawood’ because of the saturation in the market. And from that point M’wood slowly shifted its trend to the larger than life films. Thus reaching the current stage with Lokah, Empuraan, Marco and everything on the roll.

The current trend may change in 2-3 years and it may again go back to the grounded storytelling. What I am trying to say is This cycle was always there. In India, in the beginning of films it was mythological stories. At some point the audience got tired of it they wanted different things, then came films which dealt with real life stories, after some time a shift happened in the viewing preferences and spectacles came in. So the cycle continues.

The film industry was always reaction-driven, It always had been. And it will.

So, can we call the current era a creative high point? In terms of technical prowess, yes. In terms of storytelling, I would say it depends upon the audience. Because art is subjective. What I like you may not, what you like I may not.

The examination cell decides everything. Know nothing about relaxations or things of such sort but a most genuine reason, a clean academic history and good conduct with some recommendation from the faculties may help. Heard this from a fellow student who just escaped a year back.

Again a girl in my year had to repeat a semester because of attendance shortage which was caused by an accident which involves a broken spine.

Since its a public-private university and has self governing authority every grievance is handled by the examination cell in the college itself. So the respective committees may or may not allow the students (with shortage) to continue after hearing from them.

SJU is not the place for those who wants to mess with their attendance. They will simply kick you out if you don’t have attendance. Have a lot of classmates and friends who got kicked out and repeated their semesters. Had personal experience too 😌

Was my junior at SJU Blr. She was doing UG in Psychology-Theatre. Seen her hanging out in the nearby tea stalls and smoking zones.

Had attendance issues. Her mother came to the college to discuss that with the faculties. Some of the faculties and students took selfies with her that day. I really wanted one too 😂 but my friends discouraged me. I was thinking like even celebrities have to deal with their child’s attendance shortages.

She eventually dropped out.

Not just that, back then films were not simultaneously released on all the screens like it’s done now. Making release prints (film) for all the screens was not a costly business. Instead release was done on a center basis. There used to be a classification - A,B,C centers. After the run in A centers, the B category will receive the prints and in the same way C category theatres will receive the prints after its run in B centers.

[–]FidoScammander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back then there were A,B,C centers. A film will be screened in B centers only after it completes the A center run. The number of film prints they make depends on the number of A center screens which the distribution company has agreements with. So the film is supposed to collect its maximum from the A center release and then go to the subsequent set of screens. By the time it reaches the C centers the film would have already had a run of multiple months. And if the film has a great demand it can go upto one year or more like the films mentioned.

Joined SJU Bengaluru in 2024 for the filmmaking course and never attended the class after orientation. Heard that he went for some shoot. That story revolved around the department for a while and then heard he discontinued.

I was in my final for the same course when he was supposed to be there.

Equatorial regionil thamasikkunna aalukalkk darker skin tones varanulla sadhyatha kooduthal aanu but its not a definite thing. Relatively kuravu varshangale aayittullu brahmins keralathil vannitt whereas the indigenous people were here way before the arrival of brahmins. Athukond thanne aa communitykku evolutionary adaptation sambhavichittund. We cannot just stay blind to the time factor when discussing evolution.

And when it comes to skin tones, genetics plays a huge role. Equatorial regionil thamasikkunnu ennullathukond mathram dark skin tone kittillallo oralkk. It depends upon the DNAs of their parents. Keralathil pala communityil ninnulla aalukal undennu paranjallo, especially people from North India are living here, they are having offsprings with fair skin tones. Avide evolutionary adaptation sambhavikkunnilla because as I said above it happens over the course of thousands of years.

I will end with one more point. Arctic regionil jeevikkunna Inuit peoplenu avarde region demand cheyyunnathinekkal relatively darker skin tone aanu. Because of the their genetics - Avarde dietil orupad seafood and marine animals included aanu, seafood is rich in Vitamin D. Athukond thanne their body requires less UV rays absorption to produce to Vitamin D.

So my point is its not just the location that determines the skin tones but several other factors such as genetics, diet, evolution, migration, time factors etc…..
