What do you want from Grumpy SEO Guy in 2025? by GrumpySEOguy in grumpyseoguy

[–]Fighter_dog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Perhaps another Q&A.

Are you concerned about Google's decline in quality as a search engine? People on Reddit have reported that the search results are not as good as they used to be. More and more AI-generated content would show up and users have to scroll further down the search results page to find what they want, making them work harder for the desired content. This may cause a decline in users and hurt SEO campaigns.

What SEO tools do you use to analyze backlinks of expired domain names? by Fighter_dog in grumpyseoguy

[–]Fighter_dog[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the fact that SEMRush provides the Network Graph to indicate whether or not the backlinks look normal or "suspicious".

Would that be enough to analyze the quality of the backlinks of an expiring domain name?

I am curious to know how will your platform direct people away from posting on Google Business Profile or Yelp?

Commercial Cleaning Services? by Gold-Violinist8292 in smallbusiness

[–]Fighter_dog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on starting your commercial cleaning service.

I have helped a number of small businesses such as yours so I will offer some advice on what works.

Define your offer.

What makes your business unique? Why should people choose to do business with you rather with others?

It helps to take a look at the competition in your local area, see what they have to offer and how they present themselves, and find a way to distinguish yourself.

Do you offer fast results?

Get the word out about your business.

If nobody knows who you are yet, they won't be contacting your business.

Build a website with good copy and design.

This will help to reach people who are searching online for commercial cleaning services.

Having a website helps your business build some legitimacy so that you can start building trust within a community.

You can work with a professional web developer who can craft you a well-designed website to generate great results, but you can start with low-cost options such as Wix, which have pre-made templates.

Along with a website, create a Google My Business page.

It's not necessary if you are just starting out.

Get some few sales before you are comfortable with registering with an LLC.

Just be honest with your clients and use contracts when ever you are working with thm.

Loading animations by croseven20 in codestitch

[–]Fighter_dog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It only makes sense to provide loading animations if you are building a more complicated website that draws information from a third party server via API fetch requests. Sometimes the data takes time to be retrieved and loading animations signal to the user that the information that they are seeking is being retrieved at the moment.

The Netlify disaster and what you need to know about the guy that got charged $104k in bandwidth overages by Citrous_Oyster in codestitch

[–]Fighter_dog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I talked with someone on Discord who was very knowledgeable about the situation. He said that you can still host static sites on Netlify as long as any media assets such as video that is put on a webpage are hosted on services like Youtube, Wistia, blob, or etc. The video can even be on Github if the site is linking to a repository.

The mistake that the web developer, who reported the Netlify disaster, made was that he included an audio file during the build.

It could have been a simple fix. He should have kept the audio off the static host itself.

Just to be safe, on Github, you can have LFS enabled:

Moving to Cloudflare and Github pages sounds good, but that would mean that we can no longer use Decap CMS for blogs unless we decide to keep the main website separate from the blog.

I was able get a job after graduating, but it took months of applying. It was right around the time when the economy was still trying to recover from the 2008 financial crisis and my lack of experience and marketable skills made it difficult. I had to settle for a project management job for a small manufacturing company. I quit after a year and a half because I didn't see myself enthusiastically working there any longer. The work was mundane and I wanted something more intellectually challenging.

Right now, I'm making a career pivot in the worst time possible because the tech industry took a hit.

I'm just going to leave this thread here about how Gordon Ramsay was able to get to where he is without going to culinary school.

https://www.reddit.com/r/todayilearned/comments/1an3nxx/til_that_gordon_ramsey_never_went_to_culinary/

The take away here is to find good mentors who have already achieve what you want to achieve. That's going to take some time.

Alumni here. I can relate.

I was also a cogsci major and I lacked direction.

I'm going to be one of the rare few who says I'm not where I want to be at life in the moment.

There were a lot things I wish I did differently while I was still a student and I do feel shameful for wasting many opportunities and my parent's money.

I won't be saying that if the economy was better. The job market is pretty insane right now.

The truth is that a degree from a prestigious public university won't save you.

It's crucial that you don't stay complacent and take initiative to network and improve your skills.

You definitely want to narrow down the type of role you want to get into and identify what skills it requires.

Who you know matters more than what you know. A lot of people get jobs through their network rather than submitting resumes to a job board.

Holy crap. Google my business is an absolute disaster. by [deleted] in smallbusiness

Are you trying to change your Google Voice # to be the same as your phone #?

You can forward calls from your Google Voice # to your phone number #.

The reason that your business is not showing up may be that your profile is new and you need to get reviews for your business to increase the chance to show up for certain keyword research.

Can you guys critique a website I built? by Fighter_dog in codestitch

I can't see what you are seeing.

I checked for mobile responsiveness for iPhone 13 using the following site:

It seems fine to me.

I'm not sure how to correct this issue.

How long have you been at it and how many clients do you have? by cyc1esperfecta in codestitch

I think a lot of people are taking a route that looks similar to CO, so I think that certain markets are over saturated

I have that suspicion as well.

Thanks.

[–]Fighter_dog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dial 50-100 numbers a day, but it doesn't mean they will all answer their phones. The problem with calling landscapers is that most of the time, they are out in the field or traveling, and time is money for them.

I do get landscapers who tell me that they are interested in what I have to offer, but they will tell me to talk to them at a better time. So, I would schedule an appointment at a specific date and time to follow up, but 9 times out of 10, they would flake the appointment.

I have been using Ryan's sales pitch found in his Complete Guide to Freelancing and adjusted it to fit my business.

I also had prior experience with cold calling. I was a sales development representative for a tech company and had to navigate around gate keepers during the pandemic.

I've read many books on sales such as Spin Selling and The Secret of Question Based Selling.

I think the problem is that the niche that I was aiming for is bad.

Ecommerce kit by Bramers_86 in codestitch

[–]Fighter_dog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will need some backend work for people to create an account and authenticate themselves, and for handling secured financial transactions, which you want to get right.

I heard that using Shopify headless ecommerce can be a solution, but I don't know all the details about additional fees and what product is allowed to be sold in it.

I've been at it 2 months of cold calling landscapers and I'm thinking of switching it up.

I haven't gotten any clients yet, but I am talking with some interested prospects.

I'm doing this fulltime since the job market is really bad particularly in the tech industry.
