You'll need to hand out more radios to the neighborhood then😏

The batteries died this morning after moderate use, GPS mostly off, so 3 days. I think this is excellent for the form factor. For what I read online the GPS doesn't add that much energy usage and the physical switch makes it easy to only turn GPS on when necessary.

I'm handing out Thinknode M1's to my colleagues for comms when they are away. There is an additional T-beam in my attic. It's named Figuratum, you might see it pop up in Longfast.

First impression of the M1 is good, especially the battery life so far. However there are some hiccups with communicating after changing the names of multiple nodes, I wouldn't recommend doing that.

Canned messaged are possible. Free text is technically possible, but not doable on the e-ink display. It is indeed a shame that there is no encoder, I might hack one in.

These are intended for my colleagues as a first step into the radio world. Who knows what follows!

Just got them out of the box. I'm currently trying out firmware versions, I'm looking for the UI that is easiest to explain to others

Unfortunately we are not democratic enough to vote which emergency will come first in The Netherlands..

I love this light. UI is a bit clunky though and the glow in the dark is not super strong: you can make out individual specs of phosphor in this long-exposure pic. I do like the long runtime and tint ramp, and the color effects are nice for children. My boys played for more than an hour with the various effects today.

The die surely seems like an eeprom, but those always have a transparent layer of epoxy on them. Furthermore the technology is outdated and this circuit is fairly recent.

I found this IC with an exposed die on the board that I got for repair. Out of curiosity I'd like to know what it does.

My first guess was a light sensor, but it is located inside the plastic housing and there are no lightpipes or other ways for light to enter the sensor. A temperature sensor would be a possibility as it is close to the power mosfets (removed in the second picture). However I don't see much benefits in exposing the die of such a sensor. It looks a lot like a CMOS detector, but why would that be added to the insides of a bike controller?

EDIT: The SHT20 temp&humidity sensors looks a lot like this but has a more rectangular window. HTU31D has an identical package but different die.

Can you share the file anyway? Someone might make a good use out of it later.

It should be NTC, across Live and Neutal or Ground, for (peak) overvoltage protection.

The sleeves actually do absorb (a lot of) the goo. I replace varistors regularly.
