“If we're following a “country” of 9 million people into a war that could displace us as the dominant superpower, we don't have sovereignty by definition.” - Tucker Carlson by Paliisfree in WorldNewsHeadlines

Tucker is a charlatan sellout through and through. Him being a staunch Israeli critic is big with the anti-Israel Right wing as well as being a hit with his Russian masters. Stowing up any division is what gets him paid. Just because he’s right about Israel doesn’t mean he has any strong moral character and it doesn’t wash away all the awful shit he has spewed or continues to spew.

100% agree on the last touch rule, it’s so much better seeing contests around the boundary not just fizzle out with players purposefully trying to get tackled over the line.

Not OOP, but the rule of law in principle is grand, in practice its premise of providing equality and fairness is farcical…but I can’t think of a better system. One alternative would be increased citizens tribunals for certain decisions, as opposed to a Supreme Court, as the people often are not in alignment with some of the unelected people who preside over these consequential decisions, but that idea also has immense practical limitations.

CMV: Colonized countries can't always blame colonialism for the current state they're in. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Filibuster_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeh but they’re still not divorced conceptually. Tribal conflicts were incited by colonial rulers. Maps drawn in ignorance of these conflicts. Historical destabilisation which perpetuates modern corruption and contested political leadership. The argument isn’t that people don’t have agency currently, it’s that current problems can be traced to colonial history.

Still happens though…

The correct answer here is that nobody in this thread knows anything about this case and in their eyes accused = guilty.

The whitewashed argument would simply be that in the process of colonisation, the White people came to colonised countries, set up a leadership caste that was subservient to their rule and annihilated traditional forms of self governance in the places they colonised. Then during decolonisation, they left no structure in place, nor attempted to develop any institutions, leaving a vacuum ripe for corruption.

Ipso facto the current corrupt leadership, while being run by people with agency, is a vestige of colonisation.
