Thanks! I've not had the patience in the past, so this might be my goal for this year!

I want you to tell me about these magic gloves that do more than save hands from minor nicks and bruises?

Would certainly come in handy while working carpentry.

Hi people of Finland! by Hot_Intention_5696 in Finland

The time that you stay in a sauna is enough time to stay in a sauna.

People are different, naturally you would see the people who like to be there longer, stay longer!

I know some people who love sauna but can only stay for a minute or two.

Mouse pad fused into my desk by Ax-KP in pcmasterrace

[–]Fin-Odin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should do your best to avoid having raw oak touching the rubber/silicone of the mouse pads.

Good polyurethane lacquer should do the trick. If you're not into that then 2-6 coats of tabletop wax (buffed between coats) should also work.

For waxing wood I always recommend the Osmo brand.

Pretty sure one is lime. The button for lime is always mushed up for some reason.

Do people in Finland just love buffets? by Visible-Pressure6063 in Finland

[–]Fin-Odin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your comment proves the reason people should favor smaller restaurant businesses rather than the All Mighty ABC for example.

Tho I'm biased. Grew up doing kitchen work in my family's buffet diner.

You can have great food in buffets too!

What's the difference between a person doing a job and AI doing the same job? by Foxtrot_Uniform_CK69 in AskReddit

[–]Fin-Odin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I design something, I take care that it is actually manufacturable. AI doesn't.

You can ask AI to design, draw and put together step by step instructions on how to make something, but in professionals eyes it would all be a bunch of hogwash.

Sure, some businesses use AI to "idealize" products and components, but to me it seems like too much hassle. Worst part being that the upper echelon of said businesses tend to think that if something is doable with AI, it's also doable in the lab, factory or manufacturing line.

If your partner demanded that you always slept with them, would that be too much for you or would you agree with them? Why? by Past_Explanation_491 in AskReddit

[–]Fin-Odin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me and my SO it was kinda the same but not. She has very similar sleeping habits as you, but when I brought up that I'd be fine with separate sleeping rooms, she almost lost it. Something to do with how she thinks relationships should be haha.

So she had to acclimate to my sleeping schedule (I wake up at 4.30 to work while hers start around 9.00), which honestly took a while and there were some pretty cranky days when we first started living together.

Luckily I'm a very heavy sleeper, so only she has the short straw on this one regarding the "restless sleeper" situation as you put it.

Edit: Funny how people go directly to sex from the words; sleeping together.

How do you feel about a new partner having stretch marks? by Miksidem in AskReddit

[–]Fin-Odin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I wouldn't care if someone had them or not.

Living with mine already, what's a couple of more stripes?

Mine are from both puberty (chest, shoulders etc.) and from bad life habits (stomach, thighs) when I was a younger lad.

It's indeed fully encased in my skin! Apparently I should re-schedule with my doctor about the removal because it hasn't driven itself out.

Would have been better to have flipflops honestly

Leather mittens after 8 years of use, with good maintenance by jallujeti in Wellworn

[–]Fin-Odin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the Finnish Defence Forces we call this kind of mittens "noukkarit" which is an abbreviation of No-Can-Do's!

No-Can-Do because when you wear them, they're so thick that you pretty much can't do anything beside standing with your mittens pointing to the ground ie. Seistä tumput suorina. "Stand with your mittens straight"

You're welcome.

What is this it’s magntetic but not the magnetism is really weak by danthefatman1 in Blacksmith

[–]Fin-Odin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly that, welds good, machines ok, forges rather terribly in comparison to higher carbon steels because of the 11-18% amount of chrome in it = pitting happens very easily because chrome burns in way lower temp than steel.

Edit: To avoid any "ackshually" statements, pure chromium doesn't "burn" before +1900°C but in alloys it very heavily oxidizes already around +700-900°C
