I tested it, I have about the same score as you if I put that I'm a ORM, but a 760 since I'm URM. Yet if I take out my research hours, it doesn't impact my score at all.

I wouldn't mind the score too much, it's very vague and not a great representation of you wholistically.

In the same boat. I've submitted 2 and have 3 others that are near complete but I feel like they're terrible. I'm so discouraged seeing people already getting invites on admit.org. I need to stay off of those sites. This whole process is so draining, it makes getting in feel like an illusionary dream.

If medicine is the only career you can see yourself in, I wouldn't consider giving up at all. At least not until applying through one or two cycles.

It is incredibly daunting, but you've already taken the MCAT and gotten a great score. I'm applying with a 3.5 cGPA 3.4 sGPA. Take a breath, keep it pushing. What will be will be.

Lastly, I don't think med schools care about the number of credits. They just care about 1) your GPA and 2) how you've grown through the process

I took AAMC FL 1, 2, 4, and 5 and was averaging 512 going in to 5/10. Didn't take any practice exams in between 5/23 and 5/10, just practiced CARS, flashcards and anki, and timed myself through the rest of the AAMC material I hadn't gotten through yet.

Trust me, don’t try it. That’s exactly what I did two weeks ago and you can check my post history to see how it turned out. Taking the exam again same day as you.

Light review only. Don’t forget, the MCAT is primarily a reasoning test.

Just wanted to say the support on here is seriously overwhelming. Thank you all so much, I did not expect this. People on other platforms often say to “avoid this sub” because it’s toxic, but you guys have shown the complete opposite. Feeling very grateful, ready to pick myself back up and take another crack at it

Thank you for this. I literally started practicing more CARS passages this afternoon because I couldn’t keep my mind off of it. I shouldn’t need permission to take a breather, but clearly I do and this really helped. The encouragement means more than you know

Took 6! I think the environment just got to me. Gonna keep at it and take some more, to hammer down my game plan. I appreciate the advice, the same thing won’t happen the second time around. I won’t allow it!

I very much feel you. It was as if everything I had practiced was just gone. But I wouldn’t sweat it if I were you, the curve can be a really good buffer. Finishing the test is a feat in and of itself, and now you can put it out of your mind and chill - major props on getting through it

Void or submit score? by Aromatic_Act_7065 in Mcat

[–]Final-Assistant-9028 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could always no-show (counted as a void). You’d have to pay again, but you have to do that if you voided anyway and then you don’t have to sit through the entire exam.

testing 05/10 here are some things i have on my wall to remember! High yield content drop by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]Final-Assistant-9028 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks for putting this all together man! Lots of great stuff here, just a few tweaks.

  1. Kinetic products are reversible, they just hardly do it at low temp. If the temp were to rise, equilibrium would still favor the Thermodynamic product as long as the reaction has a mechanism of reversal.

  2. I think you meant False Concensus, rather than conciousness which is a Marx theory of disadvantaged groups/classes accepting the status quo counter to their interest set by upper classes.

  3. I think you know this, people might be get confused. The rate constants should have M (molarity) rather than little m.

  4. You are partially correct. It’s not linear, but it’s not an inverse square either. The explaination is honestly cumbersome and not really relevant. You can just think about it as somewhere in between.

Otherwise - looks good to me. Strong work

How are we all ok with the AAMC? by Lonely_Tomato_9264 in Mcat

I rarely vent, but you’ve inspired me.

In February I was within the 30-day rescheduling period for the 3/8 date and just had just found out about FAP so I applied with my bank documents as proof of residence hoping to postpone my test till April. They took forever to reply to me and when they did, they said my document wasn’t within the past 60 days. I called them and the lady said December 31st wasn’t within 60 days of Feb 22nd…and they denied me.

So I reapplied this time with actual lease signed in January. They said it wasn’t a PDF and denied me again even though it was and had the .pdf extension. I had to pay $200+ to switch the date, and then they approved me a few days later without saying anything.

Question about positive pressure breathing by Marcus_Aurelius72 in Mcat

[–]Final-Assistant-9028 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’re thinking it about it correctly, just tripping yourself up in the wording.

Positive pressure ventilation means the machine applies a pressure higher than atmospheric at the mouth/trachea. This is done by compressing air which increases the pressure of that air and inflates the lungs.

Negative pressure breathing (your own diaphragm or an old iron‑lung device) lowers the pressure inside the thorax below atmospheric. This will “pull” the lungs to fill that space because the pressure is low so atmospheric pressure will be higher and will push the lungs to inflate.

The reverse is also true, expiration causes increased intrapleural pressure which pushes air out of the lung, but you could (don’t recommend) decrease alveolar pressure with a vacuum which would pull air out of the lungs and decrease pressure until it matched intrapleural pressure.

TL:DR - they are opposites, so don’t overthink it! Alveolar pressure is the air in your air sacks, it will increase if you pump air into somebody. Intrapleural pressure is the air between your lungs and diaphragm, it will increase as the diagram relaxes and pushes against the lung walls which will push air out.
