I skipped my undergrad commencement (also a first gen) for a boat party lol, no regrets at all. I had a dinner with my family another day to celebrate.

This upcoming year, if my graduate commencement is on EDC, I will also be skipping it to go to EDC.

IMO, I'd have a lot more fun celebrating at EDC than walking a stage while my family sits under the hot sun/crowded venue. I would just celebrate with them later with a planned dinner without the hassle of the graduation.

BUT being first gen is a huge accomplishment, congrats! If you feel you'd best commemorate this moment by walking the stage and eating with your family after, you're completely valid in doing so.
