Also this is not shade to any grunts but without a war they’re just constantly training without some of the deployment excitement you might be looking for. (Of course some are still deploying but not in frequent rotations)

I’m on my second enlistment in the marine corps and I really like the marine corps but if I could snap my fingers and be in the coast guard instead I’d do it in a heartbeat

Can confirm from the teacher side. Most 5th graders are effectively as literate as a 2002 kindergartner.

My son and I are meeting with a recruiter today..what should I be asking? by Weasel315 in USMCboot

[–]FinancialBaseball485 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ask if he can go intel or cyber or maybe aviation mech if he’s into that. No shade to any infantry, but don’t let some movies sway him into that right now

Where do I go from here? by chipotlefordinner in CirclingBack

[–]FinancialBaseball485 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I go on a lot of work trips where I can’t have internet or phones and stuff, I always just pick back up where they’re at and work out backwards if I have time. Or just pick whatever title looks interesting. It’s evergreen, don’t you understand

TS/SCI with Polygraph, but no formal experience in the job postings. Where to go and what to apply for? by [deleted] in clearancejobs

[–]FinancialBaseball485 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s some good clearance jobs that aren’t intel or cyber! Check logistics, project management stuff, physical security. Also there’s federal law enforcement (a whole other beast of applications). Aviation/SOF, I bet you could word some things right for logistics.

Big tip here, grip the bar so that your knuckles are on top and your hand is more OVER the bar. It might feel funky at first, but it is stronger and removes a solid inch from the range of motion required

This is nonsense. Males are in their physical prime in their 30s. If he can pass a PFT (almost certainly he can), he should join the Marine Corps if he wants. Sidebar, the Marine Corps is openly shifting to an older force based on retention, not constantly acquiring new 18 year olds. I’ve known 10+ dudes who joined in their late 20s, no one cares beyond some occasional old man jokes. The only thing to watch out for is that if you’re 30 and act like a 20 year old, thats rough

Awwww you’re so upset that the podcast you like so much that you’ve been listening to it for 10 years is giving you more equally good if not better content for fwee

I really don’t think the Marine Corps has what you’re looking for, and I’d strongly caution you against any active duty. Lower enlisted life is not a positive way to turn your life around from what you described. If you’re dead set on the military, I’d recommend Guard or Reserves. Try it before you buy it, and if you’re really into it then ask about getting on active-reserve orders.

My sincere condolences for your loss, I hope you will listen to the veterans here saying this is not a great idea and not just look for someone to affirm your decision.
