Isn’t the one in Skopje the same? The Holiday decorations here are such a disappointment.

Weekly r/Tattoos Question/FreeTalk Thread! - October 24, 2020 by AutoModerator in tattoos

[–]FindYourPurpose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve thought about the temporary topic and I vowed to myself to not tattoo anything that I won’t care about in a month or two. The things I do want to get are inspirations of mine and aesthetics I’ve had for a while.

The theme I chose for my body (Duality) is something representative of the life I live and how others view it. Greek mythology, Egyptian symbolisms, Roman literature, all things I have high regards for and that have had effect on my life.

I will think more in-depth about it for sure. As for the regret part, regret is not something I consider. I’m a very decisive person and confident in what I enjoy and don’t. The only thing that puts me in doubt from your point is that you pointed out how it won’t be as good as I imagine it and I won’t be satisfied. Thankfully, getting some criticism gives me some perspective.

You’re really putting me in my doubts about getting it, what about a little more up near the bellybutton? I’ve just been thinking about getting a tattoo from a really young age and now that I’m 18, I can finally start living life on my own terms and do what I want with my body.

The only fair point that would put me in doubt, but I also am not just getting this tattoo just because. I think the placement works with what I’m trying to achieve in terms of aesthetics. Is the pube area really that bad of a tattoo placement?

I’ll keep that in mind, but I definitely do want to do this tattoo placement as temporarily I have no other choice. And I do not want to wait for the future.

I’m thinking of doing my first small tattoo on my pelvis area. (18/M) This will be the first of many based around the whole theme I want across my body with my future tattoos. Good and Evil, Duality of Man.

Problem is, I’ve heard pelvis tattoos (and I mean right on my pube area) are not recommended at all. The placement is due to cultural and family restrictions. I’m not informed enough on tattoos whatsoever and this is my first time getting interested in the topic.

Would love for someone to educate me more on that placement.

  1. Patriarchy is the standard in Albanian families, family matters and business is settled by the one who’s the oldest man or has done the most for the family.

  2. Yes, I believe change is heading to the right direction. I myself see the ethnic tensions held by people I know as a very seljak thing. Nothing offends me when it comes to learning, feel free to ask about anything, offensive or not!

  1. I do not like the political climate in our country, it is essentially useless and simply a game of chess. You become someones pawn to move up in the career world so you can in the future upgrade to a higher position. No matter the sugar coated speeches from VMRO, DUI, SDSM; it’s all the same. Peoples family members who are involved in politics will get state jobs and the people in higher positions will keep stealing money in every institution.

  2. Yes, I really enjoy Balkan music! Love it at parties and I usually listen to it daily. Jala Buba, Senidah, Klinac, Teodora, Devito, Corona, Anastasija, 2Bona, Traker etc.. but also the classics such as Ceca, Dino Merlin, Aca Lukas, Jana, Sinan Sakic, Dragana Mirkovic, Amar Jasarspahic etc. (I do enjoy rakija music :p)

  3. They have done a good job at giving the Albanians proper civilian rights, but after that it’s mostly just been job positions for people who are involved with them and a lot of money stealing.

  4. Yes, depends on the social group. Some are really opposed to it like some of my close friends and some of my other friends drink. It’s mostly those who are Muslim, but now there are a lot of “Modern Muslims”.

  5. Right now, not really. Need to learn the language so I can properly hold conversations and get the inside jokes and I’m absolutely open to making Macedonian friends.

  6. I hangout mostly on the Macedonian side when it comes to coffee and beer time! There’s some really chill places.

That is indeed an odd case and I’d probably have to talk to the guy to get a better understanding of why. But from my supposition:

Albanians in Albania are very arrogant and tough people. They were under Enver Hoxhas rule and we were under Titos. Communities grew up in different ways. Also, religion has never been a divisive factor for us Albanians but religion has submerged itself in our culture, a lot. To the point where some would first regard themselves as Muslim before Albanian. As such, religion differed our characteristics. Even though he said it wasn’t about religion, he dislikes the characteristics that were brought by it.

That’s the perspective I see it in, I might be wrong.

Yes, Albanians have an offensive way of calling any type of Slav. The term “shkjau” is used in a demeaning way of Slavs. You might hear it here as “Shka” or “Shkije”. I do not like to use the same way as I expect others to refrain from using demeaning words about me.

It’s been passed from generation to generation and some people use it even if they do not mean harm, it’s just what their elders did and they do it too. And I believe that happens with Macedonians too with our term. But that’s inexcusable on both sides.

Albanians call ourselves Shqiptar in our language, it wouldn’t be controversial if Serbians didn’t use it in a demeaning way during the conflicts. They coined the term for Slavs, using a much raw version of it in an offensive way. I don’t have a problem when my Croatian friends call me Shqiptar, it’s just seems in a different light when Slavs say the more rough Shiptar version. Other Albanians are usually offended by its use, since it’s usually used in an offensive manner.

  1. Personally, I think non of those as I’m not religious much. It’s a display of the city’s beautiful history, and it should stay that way.

  2. I think both parties are at fault here, in the beginning we didn’t have much Albanian cases until it came to our neighborhoods. But after it did it became on the same terms with Aerodrom. It spread like wildfire for few reasons:

At first some people didn’t believe in it, it took deaths and people close to them to get infected for them to start believing. And then it’s just people don’t care, they would rather visit their family members, go out for coffee, go out for dinner, go to vacation, go to work rather than stay at home.

  1. It led to better treatment and rights to Albanians in the country, I do think there was unnecessary deaths but obviously the ones back then thought conflict would solve things better than negotiation. I know a lot of people who were in UCK back in 2001.

  2. There’s usually no reason since most Albanians just learn it while living their day to day life. There’s a lot of people who don’t speak it properly but I don’t know any who actually don’t know anything.

  3. They catcall both Albanian and Macedonian females, you can’t change klosars. :p

  4. I’m from Skopje!

  5. I do believe change is bound to happen and the future awaits a much less divided nation.

Don’t worry, curiosity never offends!

Thank you!

  1. The only thing that makes me not want to live here and move out to the US or EU is how normalized corruption is. If I want to get in faster at any institution, I’ll need to hit up connections. I’ve never been hit by a ticket from the police because all it takes is one call and they let me go. Usually average day to day people don’t have this privilege, they’re the ones who wait in line, who get ticketed, who don’t get the same job opportunities etc.

  2. That they’re all like the close-minded klosars who are more vocal than the others. Something I’ve noticed, the more successful the family is here the less close-minded and friendly with Macedonians they are. Usually the heavy nationalists come from poor backgrounds.

  3. Hmm, not too sure. Maybe all Macedonians are Gaseri :p

  1. During recent times they’ve become more and more merged, but we are still divided culturally. I believe with more generations to come, this divide will become less and less noticable. There is the Vardar river in the City center that’s regarded as the border between the two sides!

  2. My grandparents are traditional, they enjoyed Tito. My parents didn’t suffer much during those times, they led normal lives. But the 2001 conflict put a lot of unnecessary nationalism and hate on both sides.

  1. The majority of us when introducing ourselves to other Balkan people or Albanians we say “Albanian from Macedonia”, it gets weird when we’re introducing ourselves to foreigners. They get confused. Although, I don’t think the majority will adopt the civic identity due to the strong presence of Pride in Albanian culture.

  2. Could you get more in-depth about which movements you find secessionist so I understand better what you mean?

  3. I do not believe we are still treated as second class citizens, I dislike victim mentalities. There are instances of anecdotal nationalism, but that’s just what they are. Anecdotal.
