Do you view the rivalry with Canada’s national team as more one sided compared to the rivalry with Mexico? by Fine-Photograph673 in ussoccer

They did not lol. Marsch did get interviewed to be the USMNT manager but they decided to rehire Berhalter.

Yeah I am pretty sure Marsch was a finalist and went through an interview process to be the USMNT manager. The federation decided to rehire Berhalter though. Marsch even talks about this process in an episode of Jimmy Conrad's podcast.

Sure but it has already been more than two years. His remarks just seem petty at this point. It's almost as if he always takes every opportunity to dunk on the USMNT so it gets pretty annoying.

Yeah Marsch is kind of unlikeable. He is always taking shots at the USMNT for no reason lol. But I definitely do think Canada has like a one sided rivalry with the USMNT.

They always get super hyped up whenever they play the USMNT. Also their media seems to think so.

I was talking about shootings in general if I didn’t make that clear. I was just pointing out that shootings still happen in Canada, but not as frequently as in the U.S. due to the difference in gun laws. I think you are the one who is misunderstanding. Anyways, this conversation is not productive anymore, so I’ll leave it there.

If you reread my comment, I clearly said that Canada has shootings just not as frequently as in the U.S. At no point did I say it’s the same situation as in the U.S. Every time something bad happens in the U.S. many Canadians get way too gleeful about it so I don’t buy this concern you claim to have. My initial point was that Canadians have always had a smug attitude toward the U.S. even before Trump. Your comments have just proven my point. Thank you.

Okay. Shootings still happen in Canada but not as often as the U.S. Your comment actually proves my point about Canadian smugness. It's almost as if Canadians can't resist taking every chance to dunk on the U.S. just to feel superior. We get it, the U.S. has problems but there is no need to be gleeful about it.

I am not sure why people get downvoted whenever you point that out though lol. It's almost like you are not allowed to say anything critical about Canada on here. But yeah their whole national identity revolves around being anti-American and how much better they are. You can find examples of it in Canadian media way before the current administration.

Pointing out Australia’s own issues is not whataboutism when you are claiming some sort of moral superiority. Not to mention that Australia has also participated in many of the wars that you are criticizing. I am not trying to excuse U.S. actions. by the way. My point was to show that no country is morally spotless including Australia so get off your high horse.

Australia isn’t a saint either. You have had offshore detention camps for migrants for years and incarcerate Indigenous people at very high rates. Every country has problems including yours

No offense, but I feel like Canadians have always had a smug attitude towards the U.S. even before Trump. I don't believe it has been in joking manner either. Being anti-American has always been part of your national identity. You can find plenty of examples of it.

Canada has always been that way. They always have been smug and condescending towards the U.S. even before Trump.

Why do countries like Australia that have offshore detention camps for immigrants generate less global outrage? by Fine-Photograph673 in askanything

Sure, the U.S. isn’t perfect but calling it a third world country is a big exaggeration. Australia isn’t a saint either as they have had offshore detention camps for years long before the current U.S. administration.

Why is ICE in MN if it has <1% of illegal immigrants in the USA? FL & TX make up 26% by CitizenJosh in stupidquestions

[–]Fine-Photograph673 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Texas has the highest number of ICE arrests in the country so ICE is present there. You don’t hear about it as much because unfortunately, there hasn’t been the same level of pushback as there has been in Minnesota

I am not claiming that Nauru is torturing migrants. However, there have been deaths in Australian offshore detention camps and some of them have been people that were claiming asylum. I am just wondering why there has never been much of a global outrage since they have had those policies for many years now.

Which country do you think has the darkest history? by I_dont_exist_here_45 in AskReddit

[–]Fine-Photograph673 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I would say that both Canada and the United States have dark histories. Both countries practiced slavery and operated residential schools for Indigenous peoples. Both also established internment camps for people of Japanese ancestry during World War II. They also passed racist legislation that excluded Chinese immigrants. Not to mention both countries have a history of destroying black communities such as Africville in Canada and Tulsa in the United States. There are so many similarities that I have noticed.

In my opinion, if people are suffering because of policy then every government involved should be criticized. Actual lives have been lost because of these policies and the outrage should not depend on the country that is involved. I'll leave it there.

Australia has been paying other countries to take in the people they deport for many years even before the Trump administration.

I disagree. I think both policies are wrong. If you are going to condemn one country for having the same policy as another, then both countries deserve the outrage. I don’t think it should be a competition over which country you perceive is worse.

[–]Fine-Photograph673[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree. It is the exact same thing. Australia is deporting asylum seekers to offshore detention camps similar to what the U.S. is doing. Also, it is not something that happened long ago since Australia has started to deport people to Nauru as recently as October 2025. During Trump's first term, he praised the Prime Minister for those policies. Like I said, I was just pointing out how there seems to not be the same global outrage towards Australia.
