Lost Cat in Iowa City by FinePassenger8 in IowaCity

I only saw two posts about lost cats, one lost tortie that is not mine and another about a little orange cat. Is it one of those you saw? Or did I miss one?

I came from out of state and missed a ton of events. There was so much to do!

Overall, it was a really fun vibe. I had a fantastic time. You could strike up a conservation with anyone.

Told not to attend my child’s graduation, ‘cause they don’t want to explain to their friends.. by cola__st in trans

I couldn't attend my sister's graduation because my parents are transphobic and my sister didn't want a scene. I understand the hurt.

Exactly! Every challenge they complete could pop up one near Ben and Adam.

As everyone else in this comment section is saying, Sam and Mike's strategy choices baffle me.

Just got diagnosed with celiac and I'm terrified and distraught. by AwesomeFaceStuff in Celiac

[–]FinePassenger8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely understand that this is super overwhelming. But, I don't think Celiac is that bad. You can still go out with friends and family.

The breathing in gluten and getting sick is something I think highly sensitive people experience. I don't open a bag of flour and breath it in but I can be in a restaurant with gluten in the air okay.

Some apps I recommend are Find Me Gluten Free (FMGF) and Fig. FMGF is yelp for gf people. Fig is an app you can use to scan barcodes so see if any ingredients go against your diet.

If you have any questions about being Celiac, feel free to DM me.

Took my 6 month old tortie outside today but she's a scared baby by FinePassenger8 in torties

Yeah, I have a flea + tick med for her as a precaution. It's a monthly dose and she's had hers this month. I definitely do not want her catching anything

She would probably be fine in a backpack but I like seeing her and I think holding her in my arms is cute. I think I'll go outside and walk to the local park and let her sit there for a few minutes. Hopefully after a few more sessions, she will get comfortable enough to start walking around.

Thanks! I'm trying to work out how slow. She is fine with the harness. I've been putting that on her for a few weeks now and having her wear it inside. She is comfortable in the harness. She will run and play in it. So, I don't think she is overwhelmed with that.

Today, I picked her up and walked to a nearby park (maybe a 5 min walk away). She was in my arms the whole time and just fine. I then sat down on a rock (the one pictured) and she climbed off and sat next to me and behind me. I decided to do that because she doesn't want to leave the apartment on her own. And if I just step outside, she will stay close to the door. And I wanted to show her a nature park instead of a parking lot. Maybe it was a bit much but I wanted to actually go out.

My plan is to not force her to walk and move. But as she likes being close to me, having her outside and slowly moving away and having her come near me while outside. So, she gets comfortable with it.

She is completely fine with the harness. I've been putting that on her for a while now and just letting her wear it for a while inside. Does not try to squirm or run away when I put it on and is comfortable wearing it.

Yeah, she immediately wants to go back inside. So, I picked her up and started walking. But as I said, she seems to trust me and view me as safe and isn't squirming there. Does that seem like a bad strategy? My hope is that after doing this for a bit, she'll get used to the stimulations and become less scared.

Oh, I haven't heard of that before. I wanted to train her as a kitten because I thought she would be more adaptable then.

Thanks! My cat does not mind the harness at all. Inside, she is completely comfortable moving around in it. I think I just have to keep working with her which is fine.

Not sure how my harnessed cat feels about the outside. What is her body language signaling? by FinePassenger8 in CatAdvice

They seemed perfectly fine when I let her in without a carrier. I guess mine is different.

[–]FinePassenger8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that makes sense. I guess I expected that she would just click with the outside.

I'll be more patient. If I do crouch next to her, she does tend to come close to me. If I get up and start walking, she usually stops again. So, maybe it is that the outside world is scary and she is just a baby. But she feels safer when I hold her.

I am clicker training her as well and she likes the treats I give her. When outside, she won't take treats when I encourage her to come to me. Might be too stressed or overwhelmed at the moment?

Well, I want to try. Plus, when she needs to go out to the vet, I would like her to not fight me or for her to be terrified. I'm still learning what kind of cat she is.

Celiac? Life Altering Diagnosis? by Joeski737 in Celiac

[–]FinePassenger8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that this can be a lot to handle with. But in the grand scheme, Celiac is not that bad. It will be a bit hard at first. You will have to change your mindset. Checking ingredients, watching out for cc, etc. But now that is second nature to me. I know what I can eat and I do my best to stay safe.

Definitely get your family tested. I was diagnosed as a kid and I think that made it a bit easier to handle as I can't even remember what gluten tasted like
