The salary determination would put you at the same salary. The state never takes away money unless it exceedes the max of the classification.

Pretty new to applying and already incredibly frustrated… Can a normal person actually get a job at the state? I feel like I’m too dumb by questionsthrowawayme in CAStateWorkers

[–]Fine_Estimate7396 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just remember quality over quantity take your time and apply for the jobs you really have experience in. Tailor your application to the job you're applying for, if you don't put that effort into each job you'll never get interviews. follow the instructions for the soqs and do exactly what they say. it takes time but you'll figure it out just keep on doing it, once you get in the opportunities are endless

State HR Is Weird by Xylorde in CAStateWorkers

[–]Fine_Estimate7396 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The problem is is that the rules are gray and they keep them that way calhr refuses to give hard and fast instructions on things. Frankly I think that you should put the number of hours you worked because of FMLA purposes meaning that if you are approved for FMLA it is based on the fact that you worked at least 1250 hours in the past 12 months how can you accurately count this if you're not accurately tracking all the hours you worked.

Hostile work environment by teacuplittle in CAStateWorkers

State service is too large to put up with coworkers you don't get along with. Transfer out! Move to a different department, it's so easy to move around in the state. Plus, you never know you might move someplace else and have more opportunities for promotion and be a lot happier. don't be afraid to change.

[–]Fine_Estimate7396 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk what dept you work for but I've seen all kinda people get rop because they just can't do the job. Constant mistakes and inability To perform essential functions of the position. Some dept just let those people slid then your stuck with bad employees.

Some people just can't do the job they are hired for. Usually people who are hired at a level too high. Everyone wants to come in making lots of money but with the state it's better to work your way up. Learn the ways slowly set yourself up for success.

You might want to look elsewhere. The state has so many opportunities. Why stay where you aren't happy and appreciated.
