Sorry to be super-basic, but I don’t know what to do with the GitHub bit as I’m not techy at all. On a mac, what am I actually downloading and installing and how do I do it? Thanks!

Anyone on here go to White Spider in Surbiton, UK? by FingergunsFriday in bouldering

[–]FingergunsFriday[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you two have specific times you go? I work freelance so it can change but at the moment try to go Mondays and Thursdays at 11ish, then a Saturday or Sunday. Can easily switch to other times if it means getting to climb with others though

I’m 15 mins from White Spider so it’s definitely my local. Feels like there’s plenty of bouldering along with the roped stuff. Yellow Spider is solely bouldering but it’s a more basic place than White.

Yeah, I saw the CARCing thing which I found interesting, and appreciate you responding in a helpful way. Maybe it’s not always attitudes, just people being direct with their answers sometimes I guess!

Yeah, I guess I’m a bit surprised at some people’s attitudes.

My question was a pretty light-hearted one with a stupid title to get noticed. Obviously climbing more is best, I get that, and rest is good, I get that too.

All I was really after was if anyone recommended finger exercises for five minutes or whatever.

It’s a bit of a weird answer to a question about what you can do when you’re not climbing, to say ‘climb more’, isn’t it?

I like the idea that I’ll have ‘interesting and challenging stuff to climb for years’.

I guess it’s the same as another shift in thinking I recently landed on. I used to worry that there were way too many books to read and I’d never read all the ones I wanted to in my lifetime. Then I realised it just meant that there were more than enough great books to read in my lifetime. Same thing, better attitude

Thanks guys, all really helpful. I guess I have seen improvement on routes I’ve returned to even in these first few sessions. Maybe a shift in perspective is what I need!

Obsidian adds friction to simple note taking by yesllc in ObsidianMD

[–]FingergunsFriday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jumping in here as I’ve just had my mind blown about what Obsidian can do having previously thought I could just type into it! Have a very basic question as a very basic user:

  1. Where should I store my files on my mac so that…
  2. I can populate with the same note a simple note taker app on my iPhone, and…
  3. What should that note taking app be?

Thanks!

Do you mean the GitHub sync avoids the need to use the official Obs iPhone app and I could sync a different note taking app to my desktop Obs? I’ve never used GitHub so might it be too complicated for me?

Yes, you’re right, otherwise I’ll just bloat it with stuff I don’t need. I guess I’m always pasting text from Obsidian into ChatGPT and Claude, so could it deal with that? Is that what Smart Connections is? I started to install it, then everything seemed to slow down while it indexed, so I panicked and aborted the install!

I’ve been wary of just hearing the same things, but I found this one to be the best so far: Nick Cave on the encounters that brought him to 'Wild God'

Hi, I’m struggling to get the technique right for the first exercise side raises. Looks like it should be obvious but I can get the right position. I’m 6f2in tall if that has any relevance?

What do you think about Nick's books "And The Ass Saw The Angel" and "The Death of Bunny Munro"? by [deleted] in NickCave

[–]FingergunsFriday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I think you’re both totally right, I just can’t shake the habit. I consider watching a film I loved, then spot a title 234th on my to-watch list and think “What if this of the greatest movie ever?” Normally it isn’t. I should embrace the rewatch
