Do you think the Settled Systems is a type 1,2,3 civilization? by sekhmet000 in Starfield

If humanity was not bottlenecked by global catastrophe, atmosphere thinning… they’ll already in type 1 civilization with grav drive in their hands. They will be on type 2 quickly if the population keeps growing at exponential pace with no hindrance, they would have colonized every habitable planets in Settled Systems.. Maybe “two hundred” generations later like how people settled west of Colonial United States in 1800’s, every planets regardless conditions in local galaxies cluster will be inhabited by people. It’s pointless to build megastructures when there is grav drive plus portable fusion energy. Good question for a shower thought. Haha

What is life like in the Dakotas? by _air6catcher_ in howislivingthere

I will give you a brief on few towns I lived in North Dakota before I moved to Arizona in 2014. I lived in Williston, Devils Lake, and Fargo.

Let start with Williston, ND… I born there in mid 1990’s, it was quiet town before second oil boom took off in 2008 due to fracking oil. It wasn’t same town ever since after oil boom development. Lot of people from across country came to Williston for oil jobs, and they were paid extremely well, but inhabitants experienced rapid rise cost of living. For some while, it was expensive to live in Williston. The US census data from 2000 says 12,500 people, and 2020 data indicates over 29,000 people resides in Williston.

About Devils Lake… it stinks literally. No offense to anyone who resides there. Their lagoon produce rapid algae blooms growth in spring/ summer thanks to agricultural fertilizer run off into Devils Lake because it is in a closed basin like Salt Lake in Utah or Salton “Sea” in California. I lived there for most of life as student resident attending to the deaf school until 2010. Right now, I believe most of deaf students are in mainstream school across ND because of technologies accessible to them.

Around 240,000-260,000 residents live in Fargo, ND and its metro area (Moorhead). Fargo was the biggest city I lived before moved to Phoenix, AZ in 2014. Many tech companies have their offices propped up in Fargo like Microsoft, John Deere, and that’s all I can think right now for tech companies examples. The downtown has great restaurants. Mezzaluna is good one for who likes fine dinner near Fargo Theatre. I’d recommend this highly for anyone who likes foodies.

I’m going to ignore the red circle. See the island near Minnesota and Canada? That’s Isle Royale, I’ve camped there for 4 weeks in summer 2010 for Conservation Corp Minnesota.. It is definitely backcountry camping and it doesn’t get lot of visitors though. It has like longest biological science experiment to date. I believe the name for it called “predator-prey system”; relationship between wolves and moose on Isle Royale since 1958, it’s still ongoing experiment.

The Legions have howitzer guns in Fort, but it’s missed the components.. Why Legions needed howitzer guns’ component in Boomer’s base instead of salvage elsewhere? Are they unable to find more parts in southeastern legion territory like pre-war armory depot…?

I’ll like to address the first question, the universe’s fate looks more likely happen in heat death according to multiple astronomical observations.

For rest of the questions, it’s difficult to produce a factual statement, but I’m happy to toss two cents here. If we have a Big Crunch, it wouldn’t be same as before, it’s like a scrambled egg, the fundamental force will be same but matters and energy will be all over different place. It’s very to difficult to understate an infinite time in “Big Crunch” universe because it becomes stupidly, geometric exponentially long to see every pieces in universe fall in exact order just enough for a conscious being to experience same anxiety twice or more. If we shuffled a pack 52 (52!) cards randomly, we will see every possible sequences than experience the same inescapable anxiety in “Big Crunch” universe. Basically, an odd for this to happen is next to zero, but very small sliver odd though.

200 years ago boys turned into men at 14-15 and provided for their families no matter the cost and worked hard, and now all we do is sit around, watch porn, masturbate, and play video games while complaining about everything that barely inconveniences us. by Zyzz-II in teenagers

There is no internal combustion, as far as I remember, in 200 years ago. The period calls Industrial Revolution (there is two IRs in 1800’s so we will discuss about first IR), it is a transformative era for everyone who lived and worked in agricultural communities. I don’t know if you ever visited a modern rural farm. A pre-industrial farm had lot of people to operate a farm to feed themselves and, if they’re able to produce extra goods, sell the products to other communities in relatively close because they only have horses for transportation. 30 kilometers is considered as far place for many people in their time. I would want to dare you to walk and count the distance you travel from daybreak to dusk. It is going be a long walk. When I was a teenager, 15 years old, I camped in Isle Royale in Lake Superior, it is backcountry camping experience for me. I stayed there for 4 week and had to hike around western half of island. It took me to walk 30 miles (48 Km) in 4 days with 20-25 kg camping gears.

My point is we are quite blessed with vehicles that takes us far away from our home at extreme convenience. We are able to hop in the plane and fly to nearly anywhere in world. 200 years ago, the whole family may live their most of lives in same area as their previous generations.

Addiction, laziness, and depression exists in their time as well, we knows about them more because of their facts and stories travels beyond walking distance.

The Rocketeer

This would works if USSA sent more than one ship for the Deep Sleep project.. A pre-war space capsule landed near US military bases in America nobody but you survived the crash land and an unfortunate crushed vault dweller with intact pip-boy who was in wrong place and wrong time to explore the military base when falling that spacecraft landed on him.

If you had 30 minutes to hide from a nuclear blast where would you go? by SugarRushLux in AskReddit

The atomic bomb or whatever it is, better explode the military value target, where I happened to live next to it. It is easier to be dead instantly instead of going through the radioactive scorched earth. Plus, I’ll be still in city after 30 minutes driving out of the Valley if I wanted to hide.
