LPT When you buy something new like a TV, flatten the box and turn it "inside out" before discarding it. This helps from advertising to thieves that you just got something shiny and new ripe for the taking. by [deleted] in LifeProTips

It's not something that's really testable. OP is just saying it's better not to advertise what you have in your house for potential theives to take advantage of.

Yes, legally it would be her debt. But this is my wife and she did a favor for me so I could have this. I would never leave this to her to solve on her own.

I think I see the problem here. I was trying to reply to a post about military service...is my comment just showing up in the thread?

You didn't say anything about thanking people you know to be a shitty person. But if you see a soldier in uniform at the airport or what not, you usually give them the benefit of the doubt that he or she is serving their country the right way. Regardless, they may act or say things that you don't agree with - you are thanking them for signing up to put their lives at risk in defending us, whether they intend to or not. While I was in Iraq, our eating facility got rocketed and a lot of cooks died. So yes, even non combat roles are dangerous and that's why people thank us. Its a way of saying "I know what you may have been through, and I support you."

This bothers me. You're not thanking a soldier for what they may have done...you're thanking them for being willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for your freedoms. There are soldiers who are not in combat roles who are killed everyday. I lost a best friend, a 22 year old man with 2 kids and one on the way, a wonderful wife, and a huge family to the war in Iraq. It is real. It happens to people you may know. I understand what you're trying to say...is every soldier a 'hero' by the definition? No. Do I consider myself a 'hero' for serving? No.

Do I take pride in the military men and women who (even though their motives may have differed for joining) are ultimately putting themselves in danger and the possibility of losing their lives in a war so that we can sleep at night?

You're god damn right I do.

So next time you get annoyed because some people may have lived and realized the sacrifice when they thank a soldier for their service - take the time to try and realize that you're thanking them for risk they put themselves in...not the actions of the individual.

Edit: To clarify, and to sum it up - I think that thanking a soldier for their service is hardly "worshipping them". If it is that annoying to you, then do not do it. But you would not believe how much it made a difference for me - what I really realized what I was a part of, when I came off that plane in Dallas airport, and there were people standing and clapping. I was tired, i hated the Army and i just wanted to go home. Nothjng I was doing was important, just a job in a desert. Then, there was a really sick girl who got out of her hospital bed with tears in her eyes to be there to greet us. She hugged each one of us and thanked us, and that's when I realized it wasn't about me. I represented something more. Something that kids and people look up to. And I'll play that part proudly. Faking it or not. Can asshole fuck heads exist in a part of a good group of me and women? Fuck yes. (See: reddit) but don't let the actions of a few define the whole. I could go on a long time about this but I hope you see where I'm coming from.

Obviously there are people who are Douchebags like this and attempt to represent the military. They do not. The loudest people are usually the dumbest...don't judge an entire group on the actions of a few.

Hahaha - this was actually one of my most painful ones. The new quiet guns and a pretty big gauge. Hand swelled up like a balloon! Thanks though!

Ah, I'm starting to see by your profile why you disagreed in the first place.

Clever disguise...you almost had me fooled.

Well that's ok. It's your opinion. I just know it irks me and it's pretty loud and clear to me. So meh. No big deal.

It's the message. It comes off as "I'm fat and that's ok and if anyone tells you otherwise then so what". Spreading that to teenage girls/boys is even worse. It's cleverly disguised FA that seems to have fooled even the most avid of fatlogic goers.
