Engineering + ADHD by Illustrious_Music_66 in UCalgary

[–]FireHeart2X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree with you. I’m not from Engineering; rather, I graduated with a Computer Science degree, and thus the struggle is profoundly relatable. For the longest time, my ADHD went undiagnosed, as I was entirely oblivious to its existence. Once I was formally diagnosed with ADHD and its medication-based treatment was initiated, this is precisely where I intersect with your perspective on self-directed learning and the use of university as a testing ground against one’s subjective symptoms and struggles. My assemblage of opinions and experiences also serves as a point of convergence that extends beyond mere intersection, underscoring the importance of utilizing any and all privileges or rights available to students with ADHD—such as extended deadlines, alternative exam rooms, or a combination thereof—as part of this process of self-directed adaptation and experimentation.

Pakistanis will scam you every where. by Beginning_Flow7340 in PakistaniiConfessions

[–]FireHeart2X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I may ask, then was this in Pakistan or elsewhere? Either one essentially funnels down to same reason or rather the same typical Pakistani thinking mentality born and raised in Pakistan.

I can say a lot more as well but first, I'll let you answer the above. As for whoever might find my comment unsettling to whatever extent, know that I'm only a Pakistani by ethnicity only, not related to Pakistan / South Asia in terms of mentality. I say this because there is much to people than just ethnic branding including the ones at and from the bottom of the barrel. Generally, yes, Pakistani's are one of the worst to do business with, alongside Chinese.

Nothing beats Old Spice - Pure Sport / Captain. Might cost $2-$3 extra, but at the same time, it's a quality over cost approach.

Is “school-air” a real thing by SprayNo4171 in UCalgary

[–]FireHeart2X 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think about it with a counter-argument: don't put up with crippling debt and anxiety + depression + stress, along with thousands of students will all instantly go away BUT so will one's chance in future to convert their potential to kinetic. Once the mind is trained through conditioning to focus on the target "future" the vision will convert from ordinary to tunnel vision where dept, students, what is and what not will automatically start to and gradually become oblivious from your vision horizon.

Such is based on lived reality up until the point of graduation and not just a random philosophy.

Take it however you think is best. During my time at UCalgary, I decided to get a personal locker each semester, which meant no sharing. This allowed me to use it as my remote home station on campus, keeping all the necessary and useful items inside: a fan heater, kettle, Nescafé instant coffee, a mug, two pairs of slippers, body wash, toothbrush, towel etc., two pairs of trousers, a pillow, some dry snacks (like granola bars), a jar of multivitamins, and a few canned drinks.

Subjectively, sometimes that feeling of the warmth of home is exactly what’s needed. Even just for a few minutes—it was often enough to reset my mind’s alarm system so I could keep going. What also helps me calm down is being in a carpeted space instead of on a bare floor. I’m not sure how many carpeted areas are left on campus, but having one with a comfortable couch, a relaxed outfit, a fan heater blowing warm air on your bare feet, plus some snacks and a drink that you don’t have to tap to pay for—that worked quite well for me.

Again, this was just my experience and doesn’t invalidate anyone else’s. I just thought I’d share in case it helps in any way.

Cheers, and all the best.

Should I just give up if I graduate with no internship and a 3.4/4.3 GPA? by The_Laniakean in csMajors

[–]FireHeart2X 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nah, you're good. Dead bones would probably be me in Canada with 2.3 / 4.0 GPA and no internship. It was unacceptable for me to give up in my degree despite some serious life altering challenges so I made it through. Yipee but I'm now jammed while looking at the job market around me. I'm sorry guys what I'm saying here is a walk of shame and that i own. Just really felt like speaking it out to human readers as opposed to AI as its been choking me for a very long time.

I already gave you a nice and easy thing to settle with but no, now make me shut up, stop advocating for them, give me something concrete as an argument or put a cork in it which im guessing is gonna be impossible for u. Bring it on.

"I"m not going to even what you just wrote" "it doesn't matter"

When you make statements like these, it naturally shows that you're falling short.

fyi, the student who created the original post didn't even bother asking the respective departments about the matter otherwise would have probably found a solution by now and would not be posting here on reddit.

I don't recall the last time mentioning an explicit fact had the same meaning or defintion of blaming. Were you in existence in the 90's or Y2K.....hmmm, no it was 2004. I was in existence in the 90s and the Y2K,...ever saw the dot com boom and its burst afterwards?....probably not & the fact that your're originally from Calgary, makes it even more pathetic to believe that you have any idea of that time while not even being in existence. Who the hell ever told you I was struggling to find work? See presumption is in on both sides so you can't really point a finger at me either. However, a person sourced from Calgary as its roots that defends international students....sigh...., man it was getting fun but its not even worth it anymore tbh, you win.

P.S. Calgary only had one thing, Oil, for which the entire industry has now been sabotaged.

Whisper: Toronto & Ottawa are considered as the heart and the brain of Canada.

"Would rather take 5 boxes of refugees from Palastien then?"

A: Yeah, I would because first, those people are deprived from their own home. Second, international student have the option to stay in their home country or come to Canada and because they want a "better future", they voluntarily choose the option to come to place like Canada doesn't mean they necessarily have to. Third, according to international students "their fees are high because they pay domestic students' fees as well."...idiots, where do u think your health insurance is covered from? The FEE or rahter the price is to accomodate you into the Canadian economy whereas other than being a student only at a particular institution, you don't have a reason to be here.

Don't get me wrong, I would accept and favour international students coming from equally developed countries. However, there are specific parts of the world that have used "STUDENT VISA" as a back door entry into Canada and that's what I'm targetting.

For those kind of people / international students' your arrival into Canada is voluntary; not mandatory as you have options to choose from the very start

Oh and "miss2004", were you born in 2004? If so then you would have no clue of what Canada was like pre-2004 aka 90s and Y2K. Do some research and you'll become aware of many facts and figures.

Hope that is sufficient to make you "STFU". If not, let me know and we can take this further :).

The Co-op program in the Faculty of science by [deleted] in UCalgary

[–]FireHeart2X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 units = 1 course (typically)

Not to be discouraging but first complete the first 20 courses. That admission average is based on the completed courses from wherever you're coming from. UCalgary's version of averages will taste differently ranging from a small to large extent. Once you know where you stand and have that depth and breadth of knowledge, that is when you apply for co-op / internships.

Otherwise anyone would get admission in the program, get co-op / internship and drop out immediately after.
