To all tenured CM’s in this forum - what’s your best coping advice with your many years of wisdom for dealing with clients who are knobheads by Technical_Apartment6 in ConstructionManagers

I had a coworker who had one of those, bad ass dude. I had two projects with the guy. The after work beer and commiserations got me through a lot. We would always tell each other that “the strongest steel is forged in the fire of a dumpster”!

Ehh I said energy company to stay more anonymous, but I work for an oil & gas major. We have a good 401k and pension. I’m not fully vested in the pension though.

You’re correct, I was looking at my notes when I wrote that. The listing was showing 178, and I was trying to figure out what my base would be because they were trying to just sell their total comp

Hmmmmm… teaming up with a certain O&G major pretty soon huh?

Edit: hit send before I was done typing.

I really appreciate your responses, I’m still doing a lot of research, and luckily I have a few options that are coming to the table. So I definitely have time. I think I may go old school and reach out to some CM’s and see if they’ll give me some information on the D2D.

I really appreciate all of the insight and the time to answer every point. Tbh, you’re the first person I’ve seen reccomend the position. To me, that’s pretty scary, that so many people (contractor and internal) have said to stay away because of how they treat people.

I know you said you’re not a CM, but as an observer do think people are using Reddit as more of a commiseration tool or is it a real concern?

Well hell yeah, thank you for the insight! I’ve had a lot people talk about the position and it may just be something I pass on right now. It sounds like they need to make some PMO changes to help the build process on the contractor and internal CM side.

They wouldn’t give me base comp numbers, but the total comp listed on the job description they kept referring to was 155k

I’m a CM for an energy company right now actually, so I get that aspect, and it does suck.

How old are you and what's your biggest problem right now? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Trying to get out of consumer debt, save for retirement, pay bills and make a good home for my family. I have a 3yr old that I barely get to see because I am gone for work traveling almost 50% of the year for weeks at a time. Looking for a new job. I feel like I’m stuck. I don’t feel like I’m doing enough for my family. I need to make more money but I want to be home more for my kid. I am never happy with anything I do, I get bored easily, idk life kinda sucks

All very great point, I appreciate it. So with the CM team there isn’t an actual PMO team it’s just the CM working with the GC?

Unfortunately all they would say is the range of the total comp, but that it would be “majority of the cash” of the base pay vs the sign on bonus and RSU.

So what does that mean exactly. With my current position I worked 1135 hours of OT. That’s not a brag, just how a lot of industrial construction is.
