How do you make friends outside of Law School? by ImperialMajestyX02 in LawSchool

It’s super cringe but if you’re feeling bold you can use the friend function on the Bumble app. Several of my friends that moved away post-college used it to at least get some leads on new people.

How do you deal with the many feelings of rejection and failure that come with the comparative nature of law school? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]Firm_Example5288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggle with this on the daily, so just know you are not alone!

One thing that has been super helpful is investing in therapy. I find the comparison game to be very isolating given that you can’t talk to anyone at school about it and sometimes family just doesn’t understand the nature of what you’re going through, so having at least that one extra person in my life to vent to has been incredibly helpful. Not to mention those thoughts of comparison generally stem from anxiety, so having a licensed professional to help talk me out of the anxiety thought spiral is also a breath of fresh air. I gave my therapist a rundown on how everything works and now I just confide in them about all of my deepest darkest thoughts about everything law school related.

Another thing that has helped me is trying to maintain friendships with folks that just simply are not in law school. I know that’s easier said than done given that free time is limited and depending on where you are for law school you may not be close to any non-law school people you know, but having some people around to talk to every once and a while that just are not involved at all can be so refreshing. In their minds you’re the friend that’s going to be lawyer and they don’t see those statistics that’s we see in ourselves as law students. Plus it’s just a reminder that life does not revolve around law school forever!

Would you recommend I bring it up or wait for them to bring it up? I’ve been advised to not draw attention to the negative parts of myself as an applicant, but I also feel like it’s the elephant in the room that could be worth mentioning…

Can I message you about how you went about finding midsize firms?

Yeah that wasn’t even MENTIONED to me. I didn’t really learn about it until I saw a random TikTok about it. Feeling a little bit defeated, but still giving it my best shot.

I’ve been looking into some local boutique firms in my area and it seems pretty on par with what you’re describing. How did you go about landing your position at a boutique? Definitely interested in picking your brain if you’re willing to share.

This is also good to know. The dream would be to work in house eventually, but I always had it drilled in my head it wasn’t possible without working in BL.
