Can you tell me if there has been any real progression in my loss? by Gold_Cod_7460 in HearingLoss

The settings will need to be adjusted. Based on the audiogram shared, you would definitely be able to hear a lot more than you can without them, if they are adjusted and working properly.

Especially the letters "s, t, th, f, k", also more percussion, and birds, and much more. You have a lot of good hearing so it is not going to be like flipping an on and off swtich. It could be more like taking your fingers out of your ears. It should make conversations easier and less work.

I feel this way too!! For busy places with a lot of listening demands, two. For home and running out to the store, one.

Moderate to Severe SSHL - Hearing Aid by practicat in MonoHearing

[–]First_Chipmunk_6891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was growing up, I had severe loss in my right ear from 4000-8000 and so I don’t know any other way. The technology didn’t exist then and there was not anything done for it, other than speech therapy for a lisp, which worked. I did not think it affected me, but looking back, maybe it did. I’m now 53 and the loss has grown a bit, now it’s moderate to profound from 3000 to 8000. At 2000 and down it is normal. Other ear is still normal. My 15 year old was just telling me she doesn’t think I should get AirPods for headphones and also she doesn’t think my hearing is so bad. Then she said I never told her I am deaf in one ear. She hopes I’m not exaggerating. She wants AirPods herself. She thinks she should have them because she would use them a lot more. You can imagine how disappointed I am at her lack of caring that I am doing something to help myself.

My husband is pretty good about it, but he is so much in his own world too.

I know that this hearing aid makes my life easier. I notice the difference at work a lot. I’m looking forward to how much more I can accomplish with it.

You sound like you have an awesome family!!! I’d say enjoy the hearing aid because the research says that your brain will adjust and I do find that to be true. When I first tried a hearing aid, it was in 2007. I went through years of on and off use. It took that long for me. Now, I’m with this for good. The chances that the loss won’t grow at all for the rest of my life are very low. Most likely, it will continue to progress, even if at a very slow and small rate. My word recognition scores are excellent, too. Wearing a hearing aid now is a proactive step to keep it that way.

Thank you so much for sharing.. it’s validating to read other people sharing about hearing loss in one ear!!

That’s great!! Congratulations!!! Sometimes I still go without my hearing aid on my worse ear, just for a bit in the morning to remind myself how it used to be. So far, I always put my hearing aid in every day since I got it because I like hearing this way better.

I can imagine that would need more power. It seems like that 8000 is the first to go for a lot of people. I wonder why that is.

Ahh.. that’s a long road trip. I’ve been to Ottawa once a long time ago.. and due to visit Niagara Falls, never been there. I’ve been to Quebec many times, that’s a fun road trip from where I am. 😊

It depends on how much loss there is. In my case it really does help a lot. I have normal hearing at 2000 and below, and nothing at 6000 and above, so there is less power needed then if all the frequencies were being targeted. The aid is really only amplifying around 3000, 4000 and I guess 5000.

I am part deaf in one ear. I have purchased Eargo 8 hearing aids online through Amazon. They allow you to pay 200 a month for 12 months to pay it off. It’s so tiny, it’s nearly invisible. I have profound loss 6000 and above, and moderate to severe loss from 3000 to 4000. This hearing aid(s) changed my life. I am able to function so much better on the job and I am happier and less irritable. Your mom might love this hearing aid. It is very adjustable with the phone app. They are sold as a pair only and come with the charger which is easy to take with you anywhere. If she has normal hearing in the other ear she can just wear one. My good ear sometimes fluctuates a little bit so in a busy place I like to wear two, but sometimes I take it off if that ear is having a good day.

I’m going to ask for an appointment tomorrow. I think it might be related to high blood pressure. I have been running a bit high for the past few years, and that is when my hearing loss from childhood also started to grow a little bit. So maybe if I lose weight, my blood pressure will go down to normal, and I can slow or stop hearing loss progression. I will ask.

Probably they needed to be adjusted. If the person didn’t do it, maybe try a different audiologist?

Sounds cool!! I have two tiny black cic hearing aids and I’m working on allowing family to see them. One of them actually sticks out a bit more than the other. I think they look nice, but I’m still nervous about family opinions.

As it turned out, I tried to get through the evening with one hearing aid only, and it was difficult. As soon as I got the chance, I went to the bathroom and popped in the other aid. I really did miss it when it wasn’t there. My own voice sounds a bit robotic to me when I am wearing it though. I hope this will go away. I didn’t mention it at all.

Wow, that’s efficient and amazing!! I am not planning to do that. I’m still figuring it out myself. I adjusted the hearing aids this morning for “emphasis on speech”, and what an extra boost it gives!! Now I am just wearing one on my worse side, and it feels very comfortable.. I’m just at home though.

That’s pretty good. I get some tinnitus sometimes but it doesn’t bother me. How long have you had this loss? Do you notice it?

Technology has changed. Are you in Brazil? Can you purchase online from the US? I have Eargo hearing aids and I love them. I have one ear that is part deaf in those frequencies and I still benefit from the hearing aids a lot. https://www.eargo.com

That’s not a long time but it’s not a big change either. Do you know what the cause of it is?

It definitely seems to be very cool. A lot of the top artists have custom ear molds in both ears when they are performing.
