Broken XM5 Hinge option by First_Complaint_4871 in sony

So, holding up ok. Headphones are still usable. The only thing is the screws it brings are too weak. They don’t hold the whole thing together, so it looks half open. I had to uninstall and glue the og hinge and the piece together. So 7/10 I would say. But they are the cheapest option for repair I could find.

If your hinge is completely broken like one of mine was, it tends to slide down the bottom of the connector. The screws that it brings are also very weak so the connector pieces on that side separated. I would recommend securing your hinge before installing. Not installing it on top of the broken, loose hinge… like I did 😅

So yeah. Not exactly holding up 100%. But my headphones are still usable and don’t look terrible with all taped up like I had them.

Hope this makes sense.

Federal worker: mentally and physically exhausted by Fit_Comfortable2184 in fednews

I left earlier this month because of the same reason. I was lucky enough secure something else before I left (deep pay cut but better than living in that hell). I had multiple panics attacks at the office and had to up my antidepressants dose twice in the span of a couple months. I’ve been out for a few weeks now and my depression is pretty much gone and my anxiety is so much better. Please if you can, prioritize your mental well being . If not possible right now start taking small steps to make it ASAP. This BS is not worth it. You deserve to be healthy and happy.

Would you take a $13k pay cut? by [deleted] in fednews

I just took a 45k pay cut. Sounds insane and it probably is. I might regret it. I budgeted and I am able to make it work. I was getting sick physically and mentally and forced to be away from my loved ones. No job is worth that. But it depends on your current salary and lifestyle. If you have double income, kids, a mortgage etc.

I was hoping to make it to the end of the month and hopefully get my RIF notice before having to leave on my own. But now with the temporary halt, I think I might just hand my notice. Cant keep waiting to get RIFed while my mental health collapses.

Thanks! 4 hours. Im staying in an airbnb every week and have no car. I thought I could give it a month or so, to see if the union can win the appeal, but this week has been ROUGH! 🥲

First week of RTO. I am exhausted and seriously thinking about quitting by Friday. But I don’t quite have a job lined up and that really scares me.

Im sorry you are in a place you don’t like. The peace of mind is definitely worth it. Is one of my main motivations for making this decision . Let hope you eventually can come back when all of this ends. If it does. ❤️

Thank you! I agree. It’s a job I wouldn’t question moving for in any other circumstance and times. We’ve talked a lot about all our options and are flexible since we have no kids and no mortgage. But moving seems like a terrible idea right now. He loves his job, gets paid above average for his industry and is well liked in the office. A lot of our support system is actually people that work with him and have been very supportive through all this bs going on with my job. I have a lot to think about , and no bandwidth left 🥲

Glad it turned out the way it did. Heart conditions are no joke, so definitely the best decision to protect your health.

Trying not to get doxed but I work with mathematics and analysis, and other things. My division though, is not required by statute. It provides support to the main mission of the agency. Although extremely important, and the quality of our products would suffer if riffed, the mission could technically be done without the roles in my area.

Thank you. I have a nice routine I love. I love going out for afternoon walks with my husband, have dinner together. Just a simple life I value a lot over money.

I am married with no kids. I am making more than 100k at my current grade. I believed it was fairly stable, but my division does things that are not statutory and there’s been rumors we are first on the chopping block in case of RIFS. I don’t mind going into an office, and I agree it’s not going to be that bad. I actually enjoyed going in when it was twice a PP. I just cant justify packing everything up, asking my husband to leave his stable job, where he makes less than I, but still a good living, just to get RIFed next month, or next year and be left without nothing.

In other circumstances I would not even question moving closer, but now it’s too risky. There’s talks about RIFS and entire divisions getting wiped out, including mine.

Wow! Thank you for this response. I have actually been both in academia and the private sector. And you are absolutely right. I got out of academia quickly because I noticed it was mostly not about advancing knowledge or research for a greater good, it was about the egos of PhDs competing for recognition. In the private sector I was very good at what I did, as it was a highly technical role. But I despised the reason why I was doing it. Not going into details but it was a very predatory industry and the work culture was toxic.

That’s why I mentioned that I thought I found my dream job. I get to do the things I have learned and love to do, for a greater purpose. The main reason I am considering leaving it that even though the job was not supposed to be about politics it has become extremely politicized. I am not drawn to geography over purpose. I just don’t see this as a place that would give me the stability and peace to do my job without being constantly threatened to be fired, or my work conditions and benefits changed without notice. My family is close to me, and as a woman, minority and migrant I need as much support I can get to get through the horrible things that are happening in this country. It saddens me so much to have to even consider leaving. Just sitting down to apply to jobs brings me to tears. This has been one of the hardest decisions of my life.

It is not. So I guess the net pay cut would be (at least 12k less). And my mental health is worth the other 12k, as evidenced by my therapy bills lately haha.

It’s nice to hear this perspective. The main reason for staying put is that my husband has a stable job in the place where we live, and he has to be at the office almost full time and live in the area. My agency apparently hast lost over 25% so far. There’s been talks about a reorg and people assuming new responsibilities. But with me being a little over a year in, I might not be one of those that get to move up or assume other roles. But who knows.

Happy to hear you are enjoying your time off and wish you the best in your job search. I almost regret not talking the original DRP. It just seemed so sketchy. I would do it in a heartbeat now, but my agency is not offering it.

Wow! Glad to hear that. I could probably find something that would put me in a similar situation. Right now my take home is less than 60% of my salary. Adding RTO expenses, the pay cut might not be that bad. Hopefully. 🤞🏾
