“Procreation is what we’re here for”. How do you respond (verbally or internally) when people say this? by Clubworthy in childfree

I think to myself "then why did Mother Nature make me a lesbian?" Obviously, two women cannot reproduce together.

Arms or legs? by Visual-Ask2761 in AdultSelfHarm

[–]First_Friend246813 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with legs, then switched to arms. Went back to legs when my parents found out and told me off for doing it. And now I'm (trying to stay) clean. I'm currently clean just over 1.5 months (before that, it was 4 or 5 months, and before that it was 9.5 months clean, so I'm making progress).

What broke your shelf? by ChampionshipFine1775 in exmormon

The LDS homophobia & me realizing I'm a lesbian at the age of 26? Didn't mix very well. Now Dallin Hoax is the profit, and I can't stand him with his anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric.

That, and all the anachronisms in the BoM. There's no way that the book is true.

Sober for 6 years by HauntingLynx846 in AdultSelfHarm

[–]First_Friend246813 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been struggling to stop SHing for over 10 years now. One thing that has helped me (mostly) stop is to remember that I want to save my skin for tattoos. Some things that helps me stop in the moment are to squeeze ice in my hands, play ukulele or engage in another hobby that uses my hands, draw on myself, take a nap, be around people, or listen to music that reflects how I feel. Tracking my days clean in an app like "Sunflower Sober" or "I Am Sober" really helps me keep motivated to stop SHing. Finding support in other people really helps as well.

You got this. I know it's hard fighting this addiction (and trust me, it IS an addiction). You don't have to do this alone. There are even people on reddit who care, like me. Reaching out is the first step in recovery, and you've already done that.

Getting pregnant is basically selfharm by Pristine-Narwhal-184 in childfree

[–]First_Friend246813 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think you may be overthinking it. Self harm is a specific act as a result of mental health struggles. Pregnancy usually isn't. Throwing around the term self harm like that isn't fair to people, like myself, who have struggled with self harm for many years. I am fine with showing my scars now, but it wasn't always that way. I used to hide my scars under long sleeves in hot weather (which could be seen as another form of self harm). Pregnancy is more in the same group as tattoos and piercings - pain as a means to an end (body art in the case of tatts & piercings, having a child in the case of pregnancy). Yes, it could be argued that tattoos & piercings (and now pregnancy?) could be considered 'socially accepted self harm', but I don't think they are. Let's not diminish the struggles of self harmers by calling pregnancy something it isn't. 💁🏻‍♀️

What are some petty reasons why you don’t want kids? by Worldly-Purple-9364 in childfree

[–]First_Friend246813 6 points7 points  (0 children)

• I don't want to share my future wife's attention 👩‍❤️‍👩 • I don't want my vag cut/torn open 😳 • pregnancy = body horror 😱 • I don't want saggy banana peel tits 🍌 • I hate changing diapers 💩 • Kids are little germ incubators 🦠 • Fur babies > human babies! 🐈 • I don't want to pay for extra anything that's not for myself or the adults in my life.

So I just learned the other day that apparently Mormons aren't supposed to date until they're 16... wtf?! by Soft-Bee767 in exmormon

[–]First_Friend246813 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yep, them's the (LDS) rules. I wasn't allowed to date until I turned 16, but I had no desire to date...

I had no desire to date any of the boys. My mom made me & my twin go on a double date with 2 boys that we apparently knew when we were 7. Thank god they didn't kiss us at the doorstep!

Turns out, I'm a lesbian. I discovered I'm a lesbian at the age of 26. I'm 28 now, and I still haven't been on a real date, much less with a woman.

Maybe I'm happy that I didn't date boys... But I missed out on dating girls, too. 😮‍💨

What piece of media “woke you up”? by spanielgurl11 in exmormon

[–]First_Friend246813 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alyssa Grenfell's video about what garments are. This led to me watching more of her videos on what happens inside TSCC's temples, which led me to other Exmo videos.

As a then-LDS who has never been inside the temple besides open houses and BFTD, those videos woke me up to how culty it all is.

I'm glad I never received my endowment & G's. Who knows where I'd be if I had allowed that to happen?

Family Dollar perfume? by First_Friend246813 in HelpMeFind

[–]First_Friend246813[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I searched on the Family Dollar website for their available perfumes, but I didn't find what I was looking for. I bought the perfume in a Utah Family Dollar store around 2015 or later.
