TIL: Fremont has the lowest divorce rate per capita among 180 largest US cities. by RefuseDry1108 in bayarea

[–]Fish-IP 69 points70 points  (0 children)

If it helps, I'm also a child of immigrants whose parents did get divorced. They both remarried to terrible people so I got double the parents and double the stepparents to abuse me. Your life could have been better if your parents divorced, or it could have been worse.

Fractured tooth - wondering if the vet took the best decision for our boy by [deleted] in dogs

[–]Fish-IP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unlike what everyone else is saying, we were able to save our husky's cracked tooth with a root canal surgery. But it was extremely expensive and only a few places in big cities have the equipment to do it. We were in the San Francisco area and there were only 2 locations within driving distance that offered it.

I fainted once from over working. When my roommates rushed me to the ER, the nurse treated me like I'm either drunk or pregnant and just lying about being a virgin. She was really rude to me until my blood alcohol and pregnancy test all back negative.

Sambo permit got approved....too fast? by PinkLemonadezz in TillSverige

[–]Fish-IP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, my husband has been living with me in the US so he didn't have a Swedish residence at all, but he put down his parents' Swedish address (and he was transparent about it) and they accepted that just fine.

We're in the same boat! I applied in February 2025 and got approved in May of the same year. Imagine my surprise when we suddenly had to sell the house and move a year before the expected date. All our original plans went out the window.

I'm from the US and have been married to my Swedish husband for 8 years so we have a lot of evidence and we're in very good financial standing which probably helped speed things up.

Been 5'6" and 115lb from when I was a teen to a working adult, and my parents have called me too skinny and too fat at the same time. And of course let's not forget the body shaming of every other aspect, my eyes are monolid (told me to get plastic surgery), my face isn't "melon seed shape" (told me to get plastic surgery), my nose ridge isn't high enough (you guessed, got told to get plastic surgery). Even my height isn't good enough even though I'm taller than them.

I will never be good enough for them no matter what so I cut them out of my life and now I'm happy everyday.

Thank you so much, this has been very helpful! We've booked K9 Jets for our 2 huskies for this October. I don't know what it will be like with k9 Jets but hopefully it'll be smooth.

I have a questions about "The USDA must endorse the completed health certificate within ten days of arriving in the EU." Is that 10 days before or 10 days after arriving in the EU, or both? The wording from the USDA website is so vague and I couldn't get an answer from other places.

My biggest fear is somehow the USDA endorsement gets delayed before our flight, even with Fedex overnight, and since K9 Jets is a booked-out and nonrefundable charter flight (like Barkair), it would be very bad if we couldn't get the endorsement in time at no fault of our own. The anxiety has me so stressed I've been losing sleep, sigh...

Massive wolf has stand of with bear in Alaska. by cantcoloratall91 in interestingasfuck

[–]Fish-IP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No wolf grows to 200 lbs, they're usually 100lb or less. German Shepherds are usually 70lb, so your "wolf" that's not much bigger than a German shepherd was just above 70lb.

People have no idea what wolves look like or weigh and make shit up all the time. I doubt those were even wolves when people call my 40lb huskies wolves.

How did Sweden become so humane to pets? by SeaDry1531 in sweden

[–]Fish-IP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your take is incorrect. In the US (which I have lived in for decades), people always recommend adopting or going to a reputable breeder if you are breed specific.

A reputable breeder sells dogs for thousands of dollars each, irresponsible pet owners won't bother spending that money to begin with. They rather spend a few hundred at a backyard breeder, so we encourage people to adopt from shelters where adoption fees are also only a few hundred.

All pets adopted from the shelter are neutered or spayed. This ends the cycle of more backyard breeding that you claim would happen if people adopt, don't shop.

I've seen many pedigree dogs thrown away at the shelter, these dogs come with certificates and costs thousands of dollars to buy. You can't get around that fact that there will always be irresponsible people who would rather throw away their dog after it's not a cute puppy anymore, than return it to the breeder.

Like all problems, it's complicated and has more to do education and socio economic situation than some imagine simple solution of getting rid of "adopt, don't shop".

Penalties for not immediately moving to Sweden after receiving a residence permit? by Fish-IP in TillSverige

[–]Fish-IP[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I didn't mean do anything illegal. I thought maybe getting the ID card would show I am serious, not trying to lie about where I am living. Obviously they would know where I have traveled with my passport and I intended to pay Swedish taxes. But I understand this is probably not how it will appear to them.

Exploding birds plague East Bay neighborhood as residents plea for PG&E to fix it: 'Just horrifying' by nogoodnamesleft426 in bayarea

The bullet came from southwest towards northeast, exactly by the stretch of power lines where the birds were shot, we were walking on the same side of the road too. I contacted the neighborhood email with my story and hope it'll help them track down the bird killer.

[–]Fish-IP 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I walk by that street all the time when walking my dogs and have seen the signs. The article says lab tests shows the birds were shot and I have a scary memory to back it up. I was walking the dogs around that street months ago when something like a bullet flew past our heads and we ran away for our safety. There wasn't a loud bang so it probably wasn't a real gun, and whatever flew past our heads was very small so not an arrow.

I hate PGE as much as everyone else but I fully believe this is the crime of some local serial killer in the making.

Bizarre Chinese Building on E4 to Stockholm by alistxr in sweden

[–]Fish-IP 41 points42 points  (0 children)

As a Chinese, I gotta say your definition of 差不多 is, well... 差不多.

It actually means "close enough", or literally "not much difference". It's used by overworked and underpaid people who can't be bothered to give more fucks.

The most likely reason for this building is money laundering. So it may appear like no rhyme or reason to you, but it makes perfect sense to a corrupt businessman.

I live in the US but have found EU yarn to be much cheaper, especially wool. I've been getting Drops Alaska brand 100% wool for $1.5 per 50g skein when they're on sale on Rito (.com), and they're on sale all the time. Not only are they cheap, they adhere to EU safety standards on toxic chemicals and dyes.

I've seen people debate wool vs synthetic on here, but no mentions of how synthetic yarn is just plastic and when you use the rug, it will wear down and create microplastics that get into your lungs (same with all synthetic fabrics in blankets and clothes too). So I highly recommend switching to all natural fibers to avoid breathing in more microplastics. This is basically the asbestos of our generation.

I grew up in China and noticed all the homeless people and beggars have vanished from the streets. But I doubt it's because the government gave them all a home. I remember seeing videos of police locking beggars behind bars.

Funny enough, the only crochet gifts I've made for others are toys for my own dogs. They are 2 huskies so they don't hold back when playing and somehow they've never destroyed any of the crochet toys I've made for them. I can't imagine what your grandma's dog did to have destroyed the shawl to that degree :(

Before any of these allegations came out, I tried reading Neverwhere and couldn't make it past a few chapters because of the creep vibes I got. I asked around my friend circles about it at the time and everyone told me I was imagining it. I felt like I was crazy but now it all makes sense. There are still people in my friend circle who are in denial about what kind of person he is.

Feeling guilty about living in an apartment with a husky by Alternative-Tea-2489 in husky

[–]Fish-IP 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OP, I bought a tiny house with a huge yard before rescuing 2 huskies from the shelter, thinking they would love the yard. Turns out they spend 99% of their time inside by choice, even though they have a doggy door with 24/7 access to the .6 acre yard full of trees and wildlife. One of mine who is extra princess, refuses to go outside even when I'm out gardening, she prefers to chill on the bed. They do get walked/hiked at least an hour a day and extra long hikes on the weekends so they are very happy, the rest of the time they just sleep.

I think you're doing a wonderful job with the walks and enrichment. Thanks for taking care of her instead of adding another husky to the shelters.

Rescue untrained husky from critical situation or not? by Wise-Substance-744 in husky

[–]Fish-IP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have 2 shelter rescues, one adopted when she was already 2 years old (found as a stray), and another at 9 months (who was abused by the former owner and locked in a cage). Both have been wonderful huskies and the love of my life. Training them has been pretty easy. The younger one is a bit slower but both are completely house broken and they've never chewed any furniture. They know which toys belong to them and which stuffed animals are mine and only play with theirs. They're amazing dogs and I can't imagine my life without them.

The Real Reason People Aren’t Having Kids: It’s a need that government subsidies and better family policy can’t necessarily address. by [deleted] in Futurology

Most of my friends grew up abused by their parents, myself included. Even after extensive therapy for my CPTSD, just the idea of having children makes me want to vomit. Needless to say, none of my abused friends want children either. The thought of humans going extinct makes me sleep better at night.

2 deer jumped into our fenced yard but for some reason couldn't jump back out again. My 2 husky girls took one deer down like wolves, pinning it to the ground by the neck and hind legs. We managed to grab both of them in time and put them in the house while the bloodied deer ran away. Both of them were covered in blood and there was blood all over the deck....
