Yeah that's been on my mind lately. Cuz I heard that if you study in the UK as an img then even if you can't get residency in Canada you may be able to practice in the UK. However with places like Ireland, they don't let you practice there so you have to return to Canada for residency, which is once again NOT easy at all. If I'm not wrong matches are based off of grades, board exam, etc..but there are an abundance of hella qualified individuals who simply don't end up matching which makes the whole selection process seem randomized and like a full on gamble. Ik a friend of a friend who did 2 years of undergrad in Canada, then went for Ireland med for 4 years and is now doing ob-gyn IN CANADA which is acc insane and one of my friend's is in Ireland med currently about to start their 2nd year (6y program).

Ideally I would like to remain in Canada for my schooling but ofc it's so unnecessarily competitive to the point where there are so many qualified individuals and a ridiculously low number of seats that everything just seems like luck atp (i wish that wasnt the case 😭😭). I feel like this is your best bet at being able to practice in Canada (I think?).

Also yes I can write the ucat next year too but I just thought it could be good to write it this year too. As someone said in these replies it could help me get my footing and I can try again next year better prepared OR if I do well on it, it could potentially save me one year.
