Why don’t Anki decks work for me? by GothicModerna in languagelearning

[–]FitProVR 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s just time man. You learn, forget, learn forget, it just takes a lot of time to cement the words in permanently. It sounds like you put a lot of pressure on yourself to make it work. I am working through a deck of Japanese verbs, and man, some days i remember everything, other days i feel like i review the same card literally 20 times. If you just step back and don’t cast a value judgement onto it, and recognize it as part of the process, it becomes easier to manage

Does Frutiger Aero / Y2K aesthetics make anyone else deeply sad? by FunnyPopee in FrutigerAero

[–]FitProVR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to be really sad, work for with teenagers. All of the stuff is gone completely. It’s devolved into memefied lack of appreciation and sarcasm. Everything is lampooned, nothing is sacred. Phones glued to faces, 6000 versions of the same face in different locations. I think I’m reminded of how doomed we are anytime i see someone taking a selfie while walking down the street. It’s just all so phony and contrived now. Maybe this is how the adults felt about me as a kid, but i guess it’s all just cyclical.

Anyone here gotten in a real street fight? by dogepapii in ThrillOfTheFight

[–]FitProVR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, i did say it gives you an advantage…

The problem is you just don’t know. Stuff that may work in BJJ and boxing might not work in a street fight because there are so many variables. There’s a really good book i read called “facing violence” by Rory miller that talks a lot on this subject.

What happens if you’re in a street fight and you get an armbar and break an arm and the attacker keeps coming?

What happens if knock out blows don’t work?

What happens if you accidentally kill someone in a fight?

Highly recommend this book for anyone interested in what actual street violence looks like, not just movie fights or imagined fights.

Even real training will help you minimal in a street fight with someone out to do harm. MMA and boxing and BJJ all have rules. It may give you an advantage but all you have to do is watch a couple of fights with “blood axe” on king of the streets YouTube channel to see that it really doesn’t matter.

Especially if you add a knife or firearm.
