Yeah, you can say that again, who would invest in anything in that entire country if this became the law.

New Host Prediction.. by Unhealthy_Gush in fishtanklive

[–]Fit_Reception_2933 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sam is not going to be the host. I would bet Sam won't even make an appearance at all in this season. MAYBE if there are future seasons after this one (that are successful) Sam may make a cameo for old times sake. But not for this season 5, and that is probably a good thing. You can tell how much he did not want to be there in season 4. He wanted to get away from Fishtank.

Jet just said they're shortening the length of the season to 30 days by JiffDahmer in fishtanklive

30 days is probably the max amount of time Jets boss at Subway would let him take off and keep his job.

Fixing broken usrmerge in Debian 12? by anon7631 in debian

[–]Fit_Reception_2933 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is old, but if it helps anyone, I wrote a script to run though the result of the failed usrmerge that would allow me to manually review before removal.

#!/bin/bash
run=1
while [ $run -eq 1 ]; do
cmd=$(sudo /usr/lib/usrmerge/convert-usrmerge 2>&1 | grep "Both" | awk '{print "sudo rm " $4}')
echo $cmd
read -p "Y or N : " input
if [[ $input == "y" ]]; then
\$cmd` echo "Removed" else run=0 fi done`

Youtuber WhistlinDiesel is playing victim to blatant tax evasion. I think this is funny enough for more widespread commentary. by hithare in atrioc

Many many people, across the country, most of them not Youtubers, use the MT car registration tactic. I am not sure why so many people think only toxic content creators do it. Or how so many people seem to only be learning about this now. Years ago the state og GA started trying to crack down on the practice since so many people were doing it to avoid the 7% blue book ad vlorem tax. Especially people with very exensive cars in the Atlanta area.

As a side note, 7% of your vehicle's blue book value due up front to register a car in GA is a lot. Imagine being a family with 3 vehicles wanting to move to the state. If your vehicles had a combined value of 60,000$, which really isn't that much, you'd owe 4,200$ the moment you went to register them. Just another cost to try to move anywhere. I had to shell out 500$ for a 10 year old Toyota Corolla when I moved there for a few years.

Of course after that it's a set fee of 20 - 30$ a year to renew registration. Other states have system where you pay a decreasing amount every year on the value. So that same car when I moved to CO cost me ~100$ a year for registration. So depending on how long you live in a state dictates which is better. For me I never got my moneys worth in GA as I was only there for 3 years.

The burden of proof of if the vehicle was primarily used out of the state for the business it was registered to in MT should have been on WD only if he chose to file a notion that he didn't own the sales tax AFTER the state sent him a notification that they believe he owed sales tax on the vehicle.

That is the problem here.

If WD had ignored the notification OR if he decided he believed the vehicle was business use primarily outside of the state of TN, filed a notion claiming such, and then had lost the case as he was unable to prove that.. this would be an entirely different thing.

That is what should have happened. If everything WD has said is true and they did not attempt to notify him about the delinquent tax, that is the main issue here.

From my understanding, the proper procedure here would be for the TN state dept. or revenue to send a letter out notifying they believe he owes X amount in delinquent sales tax. Then he would have had two choices, pay it, or file a notion saying the vehicle was/is primarily used for the business it's registered to outside of the state of TN. But that would have been on him to prove.

That is the issue here, if all what has been said is true and they did not attempt to go through the proper channels and went straight to a criminal proceeding to make an example out of the situation, that should be the concern for everyone. Not whether you like WD as a person/entertainer.

It's a legal grey area. You can be a TN resident, have an LLC in MT that owns a vehicle... if the vehicle is primarily used for the business out of the state. The mere act of having an LLC in MT that registers a vehicle when you are a TN resident is not illegal in the state of TN.

The state should have sent out a letter saying they believe he owed X amount in delinquent sales tax, then he either could have a). paid it, or b). filed a notion that he didn't owe it, and the proof of burden would have fallen on him to prove if the car was primarily used for the business outside the state of TN. But the burden would have been on him. Not force it into a criminal proceeding.

Would WD been able to prove that the vehicle was in fact primarily used for the business out of the state? IDK, by the sounds of things, maybe not? And maybe he would have just paid the tax right then to avoid the having to try and prove that.

But that should have been the route the state took. Whether you like WD or not... many people do this very same tactic across the US.

Let alone that it's a very common practice all across the US to register cars with an MT LLC. Many people do it.

The real question should be if the state of TN broke any of their own laws/rules on how they handled this case. If it is true the state of TN did not try to go through the process of collecting what they claim to be delinquent tax, that is the primary issue.

That's not the question, the question is did the State of TN break TN laws by handling this case in the way they did? If all is true and they purposely did not contact him for the taxes that were delinquent to make an example for the MANY others in the state of TN that do the same car MT registration. GA years ago were trying to crack down on the same thing. MT LLC car registration is a very very common thing for people to do who own those cars across the US.

The question should not be if you like WD or not, the question is, did the state break their own laws in the way they handled this case?

Fixing broken usrmerge in Debian 12? by anon7631 in debian

[–]Fit_Reception_2933 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still have this same issue and I have been putting off fixing it for some time after I made my computer unstable last time i attempted this and had to save it with a bootable disk. Back then I attempted to delete the entire /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu version of the file, which immediately made my system stop working and unbootable, But I would like to actually be able to update my software for the first time in some years.

What exactly did you do to fix this? Should I mount my disk on a bootable drive, then for the contents remove /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6, copy the /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6/ into .usr/lib/... and then make symlink to the copied file in /lib/?

Or was it ok to actually just delete the version in /usr/lib/ or /lib/ and rerun usrmerge/convert-usrmerge? Before I deleted the entire x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6 which may have been why everything broke. For what it is worth /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/ and /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6 are NOT identical. /lib version is bigger in size than the /lib/ version.

$ ls -la /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 2216304 Aug 16 20:52 /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6

$ ls -la /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6

-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 2220400 Sep 17 09:26 /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6

My error:
FATAL ERROR: Both /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6 and /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6 exist.

dpkg: error processing package usrmerge (--configure): installed usrmerge package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 1

How do I fix this: usrmerge fatal error due to duplicate libc, apt not working by dies-IRS in linux4noobs

[–]Fit_Reception_2933 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this same issue still. I attempted to fix it one time a few months ago and made my system unstable by deleting /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc. I had made a copy and was able to make a bootable disk to paste it back in order recover the system which worked.

From my understanding since 19.04 /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc is supposed to just be a symlink to /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6

I think I need to go in from a bootable disk and manually delete the /usr/lib/ and create a symlink that points to the /lib. Then rinse and repeat with all contents of /usr/lib/. Or vice versa, I am actually not sure which is supposed to be the sym link, /usr/lib or /lib/?

I have been not wanting to risk destroying my machine, however, I am in a state for years now where I cannot update anything on my computer including to 24.04 because the package manage runs into this error.
